Congratulations to your son.  The education is why we encouraged our grandson to join the Navy (that and the fact that our family is a Navy family) and to serve his country.  If I may ask, what is your son getting his degree in?

Congratulations to your son Terri! You must be so proud of him! Please pass on a very big Thank You to him for his sacrifice and service to our country and Gods blessings for success in his future adventures!

Terri, congratulations to your son! The USN has given him a gift and he has given us all a gift.

Terri... Best of luck for your son and for you.

My son's last day in the Navy is tomorrow 7/28/14. He has grown so much during his five years that I am sad that he is done. He will be staying in CT to finish his degree, which is fantastic. Tuition is free for veterans! I don't know if other states do that? I would love to have him back in CA but getting that degree is more important right now.
I will continue to pray for your son's that they will be safe and well. Thanks for letting me be a silent, appreciative member over the last five years!

Yes eaglefan things get better the longer they are in. I just always thought of it as practice for deployment!

jan--good luck to your son in boot camp!  and to you!  if you haven't already you can start writing letters to send to him when you get his address.

Eaglefan......yes it does get easier. Not that you will never worry, but you will get more comfortable with the silence with experience.

Sorry about previous post.  I've got one in Boot and one on a sub right now. (hence the Nuke EM overlaid with a ET logo)  -I got confused... :(
