~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hi everyone, I'm new to this group.  I have two sons active and third is currently in boot camp.  Ship 13 Div 277.  I got his box and letter, but haven't heard anything else.  He did call his girlfriend once.

JTD's Mom, I don't know what all is going on, but my other two said boot camp is the hardest.  Once you get out, it's much better.  They do try to get the divisions to work together and trust each other and that takes a lot of yelling.  I hope he hangs in there.

Thank You CatMom509!! SO hoping to have a better phone call or even a letter. I know he was never a "letter writer" so I'm not holding my breath for many letters. lol But he is so happy getting our letters he said. We have everyone writing him and now praying for him he doesn't leave. I think something occurred with his rating (his job?) and now he is no longer getting that job. So I don't know if he was informed he "technically" is allowed to quit without penalty?? Since no longer in contract for what he signed up to do? (I am only speculating- because we (my husband and I) have no clue how this all works. My husband contacted his recruiter today (just to find out is EVEN permitted to leave?- they didn't have info on his current status-- but will get back to us I guess. So we are hoping he is doing better, not sick anymore...the weeks get better and he rides it out. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW?? Can they actually leave? I know they will try and weed out the weak, and this is all a process. Just wondering if it is possible. We are hoping they CAN'T because they NAVY would be his brightest future, and he has such potential to do well. If anyone knows could you share?

Gina:  Since your nephew's PIR, they have started to issue the SRs Navy backpacks.  So, take the phone/laptop to the airport but he can put them into his Navy-issued backpack.  There was a time when we recommended bringing a plain black backpack for these items, but it is not necessary anymore.  They don't need "extra" luggage either since they have to keep up with the backpack, a large seabag and a garment bag (uniforms).  So best to incorporate personal items into their existing luggage!

My son also went to A School in Mississippi and he left Sat morning.  Doesn't mean they always will, just the way it worked out for him.

Good Morning All !

Good Morning all. I have a question but I wasn't sure of the best place to find the answer. My nephew's PIR was in 2012. My brother took his cell and laptop in a backpack to the airport. It was fine then. Can we do that for my son? His A school is in Mississippi so I'm guessing he will leave that night. If anyone can tell me the rules that would be great. :)
