Joshmom, How wonderful!  Makes you smile for days, doesn't it? Congrats on the good news.

T-lynn, ha ha-were you still in your pj's?  Guess puppy was "helping" :)
Happy Anniversary!

Maggs, loved the mug.  Wish I had a cat that did that.  Here there seem to be fewer flies, more ants and mosquitos.
Ditto on Japan.

Blondie, thanks-now I'll plant the rest of the bulbs.
Maybe you and the boss should go out for a tequila lunch when you ask for a raise:))  Hey, might get a Big one!
Is your help still there?

So my sister came for a visit.
Went along to visit her granddaughter ( 6 mo) and make sure visit went better than the last one.
Dil and sister both have strong personalities that clash and neither feels like they should back down.  Relations were strained after first visit after baby was born when they didn't agree on childrearing stuff.    Well, strained is putting it mildly. Anyway,
I kept saying, remember, focus on baby.  Find something nice to say to dil, even if it kills you!  Don't give advice!!! (unless they ask, which they won't).  These are older parents and she has a child from a previous marriage, so kinda a different situation as someone younger might have.
Luckily my sister had read a few articles on how a grandma is expected to behave these days and this visit went Much better and hopefully things will be smoother now.
I told her, you don't have to agree with them, just don't keep telling them- you can vent on the way home! lol.

Kim & Maggs -did you manage a visit???
Kim- well, good that son is moving on- really?? she waited til After the vacation to let him know!   Hope things work out for him.

Welcome new moms!
Only a few more days for me of being a "Japan Mom"!

joshmom, so cool!  Yes, the Navy has a thing called hometown news and will often send announcements to the local paper.  Not always published, but nifty when it happens.

Happy Monday Ladies!  Sorry I've been slacking again.

I had a wonderful experience Friday that I want to share because I know you all will truely understand my excitement. When I got home from work I sat down to read the local newspaper and when I flipped over to page two there was a picture of my sailor!  I was in total shock....he's on the other side of the world and to see him at work in his shop right there in front of me was overwhelming.  There was a wonderful article about him and how well he's doing his job. His supervisor made some great comments about him.  I emailed my son telling him he made the news and how proud we all were of him.  He emailed back telling me the article had been done for the ship's newspaper but he had no idea the Navy had sent it to the Daily Journal (our local).  Has anyone else had this happen to them?  I didn't know the Navy did things like this, but it sure made me feel great knowing they think my son deserved recognition.  I'm still on cloud nine!!!

Welcome to all the new moms!

As always I enjoy reading all your stories.  Even though I don't comment much I'm with you in spirit.  Take care everyone!

Maggs, we are at the Comfort Inn at 13th and M.   Son says that he travels all over for $1.00 a bus ride. When we come back, we will stay outside of downtown.  It's great if you want to hit the bars.  Son is filling in at the Fainting Goat tonight for a friend, he works at The Hamilton.  We will sight see tomorrow, meet him for dinner and take him shopping Sunday.  This is a great N4M meet, but the hotels in Arlington are cheaper.  I thought they were out in the sticks, but the transit is great.

I haven't posted for a while.  Welcome new moms!

I have kept up on all the news here:  Sailors going to Japan, sailors home for visits, vacations, moving, B & E!  Wow, the phones have really advanced in the last 6 years.  None of this was available when my son first went over.

News:  A year ago my youngest graduated from college and THEY (gf) decided that they should move in with her parents while she did her internship and grad school.  No job prospects for him so he worked at Olive Garden and paid all the bills.  After he took her on vacation, she ended the relationship.  Long story short .... he just moved into an apartment (with friend) in DC, started a job at a plush restaurant across from White House and will hopefully figure out how to start his career in the near future.  His brother wants him to join the navy reserves.  His friend is in the national guard.  We are driving there tomorrow for 2 nights and helping set up apartment.  This was planned yesterday.

Maggs, we still have to plan our visit in DC.  Anyone else interested?  I have more of an incentive now.  I have to go through his colleges boxes and look for kitchen supplies.  They need everything.

continue:

6. go back in garage and sit on step crying and laughing.

7. Light bulb comes on and I remember I opened windows. Walk down hill to back yard - and try to get screen to bend . nothing.

8. Go up hill to garage and get into hubby's tool box and get clippers. Go back down hill to window and cut screen.

9. Then roll window open more and realized I am too short to get through the window.

10 Go back up the hill to get a chair out of the garage. Back down the hill - place chair down and climb in.

When family gets home - no one notices. We go to Steak and Shake where we all tell about our day. My family in shock and the booth next to us laughing.

Things have to get better.

Wish all sweet dreams hugs

Hi

All moved in - finally !

Today is my  37th wedding anniversary and we all went out for a big burger.

I know this home is  going to be wonderful. When the fur babies arrived  - all of them acted as if they had been here all their lives. And Shark is so happy - a huge area to walk and see outside.

Welcome new moms and yippe a sailor is home for visit.

Blondie - love hearing that you had a good vacation and left work earlier for you - You go Gilr! I let Shark know the letter arrived.

Barb - keep us updated about the bulbs.

Maggs- what is angel up to and are you getting ready to teaching?

Have to share my first day here alone.

1. got up to have breakfast and realized I so needed the paper to read with my coffee.

2. Went out to get it - and found the weather so nice i could open the windows.

3. Go in and open windows.

4. Finish breakfast and get upset that no one can take the recycle items out to garage. So I do and as I go out the back door - puppy jumps up and shuts it. Guess who is locked out? Me !

5. No worries, open garage door - walk in stocking feet to front door - ring door bell to wake up dil to let me in. That is when I realize - no cars in driveway - I am home alone.

Kathy (IT Sailor)-

We have not been to Japan and I don't think that we will be able to.  He came home for a visit after being there for one year for his sister's graduation and for us to meet his fiancee (also a navy girl).  We saw him again in Sept in Hawaii (where she is stationed) for their wedding.  They are both due to get out of the navy in July 2015 but he is applying for early release for April 2015.  You can get out 90 days early if you have been accepted to a college.  He and she plan to go to school on their GI bills and actually live like a married couple in Hawaii for a few years.  The navy sends them to Washington state for a physical, paperwork, and whatever else and then sends them to their permanent state of residence.  He will then buy a one way ticket back to Hawaii and make that his new home with his sweetie.  Long story short.... I hope that you are able to visit the country while he is over there.  Try to go in May when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

Hi navymom3,

Good to hear your son loves Yokosuka...we just took him to the airport. I think he'll be on shore. He's a dentist so wherever their dental clinic is. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and any info.
