Masting is Captain's Mast. When somebody does something bad, they are called to Captain's Mast where they called out in front of everybody to be punished. Depending on the infraction and the mood at the moment, the punishment can be losing privileges all the way to getting booted out of the navy. Nobody wants to be masted. The best advice to give our sailors is work hard and keep your nose clean. Does that about sum it up, everybody?

I'm very new to the Navy life.  My son just arrived at GL on 7/19 so I am learning.  I have a question.
What is masting?

J's/S'smom, nice to hear from you. The longer I am a military mom, the greater respect I have for all you moms who have more than one serving. I can't imagine the worry! But how proud you must be at the same time. Bravo Zulu.

My sailor is enjoying his time in BS. On the down side, 1 of his buddies got masted and will probably have to leave the program. On the plus side, he was one of those guys that went to staff after he had been with the fleet so he doesn't have much time left. My son thought he would just finish his time somewhere else. I hated to hear about that.

My son got orders to report to the Carl Vinson in San Diego January 7. They wanted SD so they are tickled. Of course, needs of the navy could throw that all out of whack but we are keeping our fingers crossed.

My granddaughter turns 2 on Friday and they had her party on Sunday. My son & his buddies, typical nuke nerds, built a confetti cannon which was a big hit. They discovered that if you wanted to shoot things out like at baseball games, the best thing was a wet t-shirt all balled up. Just don't hit anybody head-on b/c that tends to hurt. LOL

Congrats to all that passed A school comps yesterday. BZ!

Now for Power School comps today - good luck to all!

BQB - the "stuffed" sailor would be fun although my hubby would have thought I was (even more) crazy if I had taken that on our road trip with us! LOL

J's/S'sMom - enjoy your trip to San Diego - I know you'll have a great time!  It's too bad you aren't going to be in town longer so we could meet up but I understand......It's a great place to visit if you haven't been there before.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Congrats Woodchuck mom!!! And thank you Boywonder mom!

Comment by JeffsMom on July 29, 2014 at 10:49am

Well today's the day! Jeff told me last night how everyone is freaked out and nervous. I told him try not to overthink this. You have been doing well and been studying, you'll be alright. I said don't go into it cocky or overstressed, just have a healthy respect for the test and do your best. That's all you can do. YOU GOT THIS! :) I'm not sure who's more nervous, he or I, but didn't let it show. GOOD LUCK TO ALL TODAY! Can't wait to hug my son, either way! ;)

BunkerQB I laughed at your comment.  My nuke/sub guy isn't a chatterbox either, so I know exactly what you mean.

Comment by BunkerQB on July 29, 2014 at 12:02am

Haha .. if you have a reserve, silent type like my nuke/sub guy, you can prerecord one word answers and it'll be just like having him right there in person.

Comment by BunkerQB on July 28, 2014 at 11:54pm

Why not a stuffed whatever they call it that looks like your sailor?  Like the ones people use to prop up when driving on car pool lanes. You can dress him up with sailor outfit, hat and all.

So Awesome Woodchuck mom! You must be so proud and relieved :) My son is just starting his journey with A school next week and is already so anxious about the work. Congrats to you and your sailor!
