I joined Navy Federal Credit Union when my son joined.  Your sailor will have to refer you because you need their access number to open an acct.   But it is great, I have my mortgage with them and I have never been to their actual branch.  You can get great prices on new cars through them as well.

wow you got to pay at the commisary?! We tried handing cash to our son for him to pay for our stuff and the cashier wouldn't even allow that. I must have gotten the nazi teller.

leemarkop - the navy does have a type of retirement program.  I can't remember what it's called but I know my son does a percentage of his check.  He set it up in BC and then when he was in GC he spoke with a financial counselor there and made some changes to the type of investments his money is in.....they can go online and make changes too.  I'm sure someone here will be able to tell us what the plan is called!

peejinator - yes you can open a NFCU account too.

Morning All ! Congrats to all the Sailors and their families who have passed . Safe travels to those on their way or soon to be traveling for graduations.

I really should keep a better log of the different sites I click into because when I want to remember where I saw something I never know where I was !! SO I'm going to throw this one out there perhaps someone else has been there and can direct me back...  I was trying to find a site that made reference to a savings plan or investment (thru the navy ) that if our Sailors made a monthly/ weekly payment of course in many years the return would be nice. I thought it had a long name but I just have come up empty. Maybe I should be on my computer so late at night ! Thanks for your help.

My sailor is an MM and he said they class up next week or thats- what he heard. Some of the sailors had  to move already I guess one of the building had a plumbing problem !

Well it is official, Yes you can go to the commissary. Have to go with your sailor, he/she shows ID at door and at checkout, I paid myself. Good prices no tax. Nice, lots of choices. Huge, lots of stuff from many demographics as sailors from all over.
