Hey Seabeemom - I grew up in Coldwater.  Currently live in Schoolcraft.  It has been a tough week but each day has been a little better.  I have been doing so much reading online about what he's going through I haven't yet started letters to him but was going to try to start tomorrow so I'm ready once we get the form letter.  Thanks for the welcome!

My sailor's heart surgery is September 19th and I will be there for them. So no trip in August, I'll just wait until September. His surgery will be in Portland, Maine, a couple hours from Kittery. He will be in the hospital for a week and recovery is 2-4 months. I'll stay two weeks probably. They are describing it as opening a heart valve. I don't know which one or any other details. Thanks for keeping him in your prayers (and Lanie's pregnancy also).

Hi, Kristen24, i am about an hour SE of Kalamazoo. Good luck to your son. Have you started writing letters to send him? The navy is a great place for our kids. My son is a nuke on a submarine and has almost 6 years in. He married a year ago and has signed on for an additional 3 years in the Navy. Now he's thinking of staying in for 20 years. We'll see.
You will have your ups and downs missing your son, but the Navy will take good care of him. Keep an eye on posts here for occasional get togethers and freely ask questions/make comments.

Welcome Kristen24!  I am in the Coldwater area and there are a couple of others not too far!

Hi there!  I'm a newbie also from the Kalamazoo area.  My son just left last Monday for BC and then he'll be in A school in Virginia.

I don't think the 26th will work at Sherwood's.  Anyone want to throw out another day in September?  Sharon - when does your daughter leave for boot camp?

Are you a card maker? Stampin' Up, Cricut?  Are you willing to share your passion for card making with our military? We are planning a card making day on Wednesday, Aug 20, from 1pm to 9pm @ TCRC, 60 Port Sheldon, Grandville, for Operation Write Home (OWH). This is an organization that sends boxes of cards to deployed service members for them to send home to their loved ones. This is one awesome way to pay it forward to our Heros!

OWH has specific requirements for the cards. Please go to their web site and read all their information. You must bring own quality supplies (tape runner, embellishments, heavy card stock, slicer, stamps, punches etc) as cards make many trips to get back home to loved ones and OWH does not want them to come apart. Sharing between crafters is encouraged.
TCRC is allowing us to use their facility at no charge, but as with everything, it costs money to mail the cards to OWH as well as $$ for OWH to send the boxed cards on to the deployed service members, so we are asking for a donation of $5.00 per person.

Light lunch/dinner of soup and salad will be provided.

You must RSVP for more information and so we can have a table set up for you to work at. Come when you can, go when you must. Please take the time to read over OWH guidelines for making cards. They have a great website!

Although we are looking for experienced crafters, we are inviting N4Moms to come also.If you are not an experienced card maker, you can make cards for your "Hero" and make "Any Hero"cards for OWH. Did you know that when your sailor is deployed OWH will send a box of cards to them also? You do need to work through the ombudsman. Please bring heavy card stock, tape runners, a pack of your favorite embellishments. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find card craft items and usually they have 40 % off coupons.

Was there still a get together on Aug 26 at Sherwoods?

Hi ladies, my daughter got back last night from WA state.  She said she had a great time visiting her brother.  He took around the base and they had a fun time sight seeing in Seattle.  She showed us a lot of pics and said she would definitely go back.  My son then called and told us he might be able to come home for Christmas.  We will see still far off.
