~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Wow Tammy, that is is so sad. I am sorry you both are going through this. I do believe God has a plan and I hope your son gets to see his dreams come true. If the Navy is not where he needs to be I am sure he will have a very exciting and fulfilling future ahead of him. He seems very determined and that is a great quality to have. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Good morning everyone :)

I'm so very sorry, Tammy.  That is awful, all he went through.  Because waiver or not, asthma is usually a deal-breaker in the military.  A friend of mine's son was separated for the same reason from the Army.  So if there is any sign of asthma (I had it when younger so know what it is like....horrible!)....they will not keep a SR.  I'm so very sorry...I know how disappointed he must be, but so sorry that the recruiter led him to believe that asthma is ok???  So NOT right.  Prayers for him and you in this process....Please join the group  Ship 5 (formerly Ship 17) on here if you want info on the separation process.  I feel that the Lord has something better in store for your son!  Prayers that it is revealed to him soon.

We received a call from our son last night at 9:40.  They have separated him from his division and told him he would be medically discharged and flown home in 2 weeks!  He is so discouraged!  Originally in hospital for 3 nights with throat infection, then sent back and told of a medical discharge due to exercise induced asthma which he had already gotten a release for that prior to leaving for BC.  He finally was able to stay, got caught up and was told that he had to choose another career path.  He did that was caught up with his division, passed all test and was now an E2. Everything was going great or so he thought.  Until last night!  It just ripped my heart out listening to his discouraged voice.  They told him he could fight it (again).  He feels like he has had to fight since he has been there.  He said he will call again today!  Hopefully I can encourage him.  Maybe this is not where God wants him!  It seems he has had to fight since day 1 (and I mean day one of walking in the recruiters office).

SailorMoon9506,

I really hope whatever is in your daughter's chest can be found and treated totally.  If the Navy career is surely God's plan for her, she (and you) will be back!!  She just needs to get 100% healthy now~~  Prayers for her and you~~

diane,

If you Sailor son had to come back to RTC every night and this was only October 2013, I think it would be the same for your SR daughter~~

Comment by diane on July 30, 2014 at 11:33pm

Your welcome. I have to call our recruiter because I read on one of the navy mom pages that if a sailor lives within 50 miles of rtc they get to go home for the weekend and not go back till Sunday evening after pir. My daughter had mentioned this after a dep meeting with a female recruiter. I sure hope this is true. I know last Oct when my son had PIR he had to be back every every night. Who knows, maybe this rule has changed.

Thanks Diane, makes sense. Wonder if they rank up while in school and because the contract extended. Almost forgot our sailors are doing the same job.
Comment by diane on July 30, 2014 at 10:54pm

Alicia In AZ, my daughter also has a 5 year contract. The recruiter explained it to us. He said that if A-School is over a certain length they add a year to the contract. My daughter's school will be 12 weeks, so a 5 year contract. He said the navy figures after 2 months boot camp and at least 3 months schooling that is over 5 months, so you get a year added. For nuke school it is 2 years because all their schooling is 2 years long. I hope this helps you.

Diannep ... Received mail today from our sailor. He stated "I have an additional 12 month extension to my contract, which makes my contract 5 years now." Can you or anyone else tell me what this means?? Thank you.
