Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by ellen0502 on July 31, 2014 at 6:10am: N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC apply to the Discussion Forum area as well. The Division Discussions are viewable to all...just like the Main Wall here.

Please do not start new division discussions!!!!

The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is set at ten titles at a time for now. (This can be adjusted by the group creator or an administrator)

It is also set to show the "latest activity" (there are other settings). So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the next Discussion has activity. If there are over ten discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear from view…but not from the Discussion Forum. So, if you want to see more, click "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.

When you view a discussion forum by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.

~You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.

My son's goes by Wade but that is his middle name. First name is Joseph maybe they are already friends :) So jealous of you right now lol

Comment by diannep on July 30, 2014 at 9:46pm: steven'smom: There is a nice mall nearby...Gurnee Mills Mall....has movie theaters too....many sailors will be there! There is also a Six Flags nearby....downtown Chicago is just a train ride away, station is next to RTC. Your sailor may just want to go back to your hotel room though and hang out after a long shower....with no shipmates around showering too (ha!)....catching up on the phone, computer (bring them!)....just play it by ear...(in comfy civilian clothes--can't leave the room in them, but can be comfortable while in the room....must be in uniform outside of the room). Especially for the sailors who have to fly out the next day....for those staying in GL for A School, with Daytime Liberty all weekend, they will have time to do more things.

Comment by Alecat navy wifey on July 30, 2014 at 7:22pm: remember some of us were lucky to get a call the second week but it's normal not to get a call until the 3rd week. we are all here for each other and just know we really understand what your feeling , your son will call soon and u will hear how well he is doing .
