whatever, that is a great idea. i'm going crazy wondering how my SR is doing and what he's doing just out of curiousity even.

Just an idea but I printed off a day-to-day schedule that was on the DEPS site that said what they are doing each day one young man who went through boot camp wrote about each days schedule so I look at the schedule see what they are doing and picture them doing that and write about that. I'm only a week into the process but I know my SR is getting his peanut butter shot tomorrow so I tried to draw a peanut and wrote ouch in large letters. Knowing what he's doing helps me kind of relate to know what he is going through. Even though he gets it a week later he can probably remember

congrats on your halfway to hugging your Sailor!!!  I know it gets tough and feels like you have nothing new to say but every the everyday stuff is ok...he may want to hear about what you have been up to...I would write stuff about what would be coming up in his training schedule...and found info about 'famous' Sailors and would include that-like Paul Newman and Fred Gwynn (he was Herman Munster) just to let him know that everyone goes through 'basic' training...

When you hit the halfway mark for BC...did any of you find that it was difficult to think of things to write about?  I feel like I don't know what to really write about anymore as life around here hasn't been all that exciting.  My son isn't into sports, so I can't write about that.  He wasn't watching any particular shows, so I can't write about that.  We don't have any pets, so I can't write about that.  I'm just starting to run out of ideas and I feel like I am just repeating myself on some of the encouraging stuff I'm writing.  How did you find creativity?  Maybe it will get better when I get another letter from him tomorrow or Thursday.  HOPING for tomorrow!

I purchased a small little booklet called Pocket Posh Brain Games at Barnes and Noble before my son left for BC. I've been tearing sheets out and slipping them into my son's letters. He said he really likes them and send me to make sure I send more.

girl64, he would not need it at the RTC except possibly to pay for his picture package (See Division T-Shirts, Graduation Photos, The Keel, and DVD of PIR). There would be no problem in his receiving it in a letter. I suggest that you send it in a greeting card if you choose to send it to him rather than waiting until after PIR to give it to him. If there is something you need to know, then it is not a stupid question.

Hi, I am wondering what would happen if I sent my sons debit card in the letter? Do they even need one in boot camp? His is going to expire before graduation. Does anyone know if they need them? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

YUP...all 6 pages on RTC paper.  Loved it!  I'll try to add a couple blank sheets to my next letter.  It didn't seem like he's gotten any letters from home, so I hope that he is getting flooded with them by now.  I plan on sending out a questionnaire this week and I'm working on the next one to send out too.  It's hard to think of stuff to write sometimes and I feel like I am repeating myself, but it seems like from his letter that he will enjoy whatever it is that he gets to change up his own daily routine.  We are sending our first round of printed photos on paper this week too.  That aughta really brighten his day as they sure were fun to put together for him.  Thank you to all of you for your wonderful advice as it has really helped prepare me for this part of the journey.
