Proudnavymom. Only needs one more sign off and will have his blue card. He has been in Groton since 6/21. Will complete BESS on August 22 then I think mechanical school followed by weapons. Do not know the length of the second and third schools. I hope someone takes and post pictures from his graduation in August we will not be able to attend I am going to contact K about sending some treats for BESS graduation. I have sent some homemade treats from home but it takes 4 days to get to him.
Footnut. Very happy your family got to spend your sailors birthday with him. NMH.

Hi Linda. Glad I can help. The navy lodge in Groton ct is off base. Only three min away from the base's main entrance. Once he signs you in(and he can do that any time from now until your arrival) he will not need to escort you. I am wondering though, does your son have a blue card where he can get off base to sign you in? I'm not sure I've gotten to your post explaining that. But once he signs you in you are free to come and go as needed. You must be so excited to spend the weekend with him! Well, I just realized, if he can spend each day off base then he should be ok to check you in. Everything is hilli. Lots of beautiful hills and huuuuge rocks!!! And rock lake which is inside the base really has lots of huge rocks! I hope he's able to take you in and give you a personal tour :) of the areas they can show us. You'll have a great time!!! And let him take a relaxing BATH in your hotel bathtub!!! All they have are showers in base. Ahhh the simple things.... :)

ProudNavyMom#1,,,I'm so glad you saw your son.  I was told that a few of the pics were not OPSEC compliant and I haven't had a chance to blur out the names in the photos.  Maybe those were pulled out of what you were able to view.  I hope some other families get to see their sailors in the pics.  My husband tried to get at least one of everyone there.

Good morning ladies!  My son informed me last evening he has turned in his 3 station requests - San Diego, Hawaii and King's Bay.  He also told me not to get too excited about these because he might not get any of the three and I should not get my hopes up about a trip to Hawaii.  I had to chuckle at my 19 year old talking to me like I was the child.  LOL  Boy they do grow up quick in the Navy  :)

Cath Bubblehead . Thankyou  I was going on what the reservation desk told me.  I should of thought to look at a map.  Maybe I misunderstood her and she was refering to getting on the base I would need a escort.  That does make more sense.  Thank you for your help  You ladies are the best!!! NMH

Linda, looking at the map, the Navy Lodge does not appear to be " on base". Base is off of crystal lake rd. My son has "on base" housing, but it is not on base.
So, the answer is yes you can come and go as needed!
