OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

nova mom, I worry about my daughter not performing up to the navy's expectations.  The navy's job is to make sure that our kids are capable of performing their jobs and being safe as can be.  I know if the navy thinks my daughter is not where she should be I want them to send her home.  She has many other career paths that she can pursue.   Of course I don' want this to happen because I know she wants this career very much.  I also believe that everything happens for a reason.  Your son will be fine.

Hesh's mom it's for SR's having social/emotional issues.  I know my son is a slower learner, then he gets stressed, then he has more trouble learning...It's supposed to help them handle emotional issues I thinthink.

NovaMom:  So sweet to hear the SRs helping each other out.  What is the PASS program?

Comment by NovaMom on August 19, 2014 at 8:45pm

diannep / tsufish thanks for your kind words.  I'm waiting to hear from him before I cancel my arrangements.  Praying hard!
