Hi Ladies,

It been so long since I checked in with this group.  I have been busy but watching from afar.  I really love how all these ladies just open their hearts to strangers with the one single bond, sailors. I see people everyday that I have known for years and years and they can hurt with one careless sentence from their mouth.  And all of you reach out to everyone, no matter the back round, hair color, age, shoe size, etc.  You know what I mean.  And you support, hug, cry and laugh with them.  I know that when I am hurting, no matter the reason, or how long its been, I will get the support I need from this group.

I have worked at the same place for over 25 years.  There is a manager here longer than me.  At one point we were very close friends, or so I thought.  I changed positions and found that the things that were being said behind my back weren't so friendly.  Since that time, and this was about 8-9 years ago, I have backed off and kept it professional.  I realize that I have to "play the game" or she could make things difficult.  There are still days that her words can get to me.  And I see myself in the mirror, a 52, almost 53 year old woman, and think how can I be hurt by those things even now? There are just some days that I just have to get out.  I am lucky that I can work at home a lot of the time.  Today I just left and came home to work and have my babies (read puppies) on my lap and at my feet.  You see them in my picture.  Love those little poopies!!

Thanks for letting me rant and vent.

To all those new Moms, welcome.  You have the best group here, full of knowledge and just so darn wonderful.

HUGS TO ALL!!

Hello Ladies!

Welcome to the group Cheryl - these ladies are wonderful...very supportive and extremely helpful.

Way to go Drama Soul - 1st pick!!!  and sailor will be home for 30 days...lots to celebrate!

Barbara - So happy your son is stateside.  I long for that day to come but my kiddo is happy so I'm not complaining.

Blondie - the lake looks so relaxing!  We do expect to see pics of the puppy.

Maggs - how is your son doing and his car situation?

I've been busy lately.  My youngen starts school tomorrow. He's a junior this year.  Pep rally tomorrow evening...we got a new football field and our first game is Friday night.  I love being a sports mom!  Unfortunately our weather has turned HOT upper 90's and suppose to be 100 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Gonna be a hot game!  Celebrating my dad's 86th birthday on Saturday with a fish fry....I think we should change it to an ice cream social!  Luckily my parents live on a lake so may have to sit in the water to keep cool! lol

Take care everyone and have a wonderful day!

Cheryl,  are you thinking a credit card which adds up airline miles?  American Express is the best, BUT the air miles ones are not no fee.  I use AM for traveling, but get Costco rewards.  Most other US cards have overseas charges which add up fast.

In general, we never used a credit card in Japan, even to this day, lots of the off base places don't take them willingly, if at all. Many of the mom and pop places still only take cash.  It is weird, you end up walking around with a lot more cash than in the states.

If your sailor has an account with either Navy Federal or ACUU, they provide excellent credit cards with very low rates.  Good rewards, but not air miles.   I know there's a Navy Fed there.  They're very good, we have been with them since the 70s, when hubby and I were both active duty.  If you just want him to have a card, go with Navy Federal.  Banking from a hometown bank or credit union while overseas is a NIGHTMARE.

Thanks guys for all of the helpful hints! Especially T-Lynn's  LONG JOHNS suggestions. My sailor is 6' 200 lb +/- so we will definitely make sure his are packed or shipped to him as soon as he gives us his address. We're from the Northeast so we understand the value of them. Sailor is due home next week - keep the ideas com'n so I can discuss them with him before he gets back in the air for that loooong flight.

HI

Cheryl - also contact his cell company. Let them know he is on active duty so then hopefully the company will put his cell on hold. this way no roaming fees! He will need to get a phone and plan in Japan. Our cells do  not work there. Also too - does he have his pass port? If not help him get it! Also , where he will be stationed - like Sasebo - pack or send as soon as he gives you his address - LONG JOHNS! Honest he will need them.Easier to bring his along or send him some. The nex can run out and he Japan stores do not have sizes that fit our guys!

Any one else having funny weather? Can't make up its mind to rain or not. right now another muggy - no breeze day.

Blondie - love the pics and can't wait to hear about yoru Labor Day trip ! Beauty Palor? You look awesome always.

Congrats Drama!!!! First pick for a part. How we all love to see you perform.

Still unpacking. Wondering if this will even end.

Wish all a great day. hugs

Cheryl, the most important thing that I can think of is to get one that does not have a foreign transaction fee.  He will also need a way to contact them.  Every purchase will look suspicious to them as they will probably be overseas.

My son will be heading to Yokosuka in September. We would like to get an airline credit card for him for as an emergency measure. Does anyone have any recommendations on which company we should go with?

Blondie, love the pics!

T-lynn....just got cast in an original one-act play....playing an Italian older lady waiting at a train station...think "Defending Your Life" with Meryl Streep and Albert Brooks.  The director called and said "You are my first round draft pick!"  Hmmm...gonna be interesting....good thing I understand football/baseball/basketball references.

Had a quick call from my Devil Doc. His orders for Oki are pushed out so he can take his advancement exam then he's home for 30 days!!!! And then he leaves and I will officially be a 'Pan mom.

Have a safe and happy weekend all. Back to work...patient is here. :-)

Maggs- so sorry about son's accident-but so glad he is ok. Prayers & hugs & hoping he finds ft work asap.
great pic of the moon-brightest one I can remember!

Blondie, looks like a fun wedding-love the pics.  Yes, your daughter looks very happy-cute couple!
Bummer about migraine on bowling weekend.  I can't even Think of driving with one!  Mine also brought on by bright light, humidity, stress.           Hope next bowling weekend you get to enjoy:)  Sounds like Labor Day weekend is shaping up nicely-glad your help is still there!

T-Lynn, Happy Birthday to Shark!  ha, ha, love his antics.
Best to go through all those boxes-we are slowly going through our basement accumulation of 30 years!  Some stuff we forgot about, some stuff should have met the trash a long time ago, some stuff- "what is it??" ha ha.
Yep, out with the old, in with the new:)
The gladiolus are actually coming up!  Over 100 of them, can't believe so many made it.  Don't expect them to bloom this year, but can't wait to see what colors there will be next year.
We planted our veggies late, so we're still going.  Tomatoes, do not want to get red.  They like warm nights and it has been cool at night for a long time.

Joshmom,  aww, Sophie Marie is beautiful!  Love the name:)

Missmom, great kids to give Dad a surprise birthday party and glad he got to show off all his hard work.
Good for you with the running!  I like the pact with your daughter.

Well, guys, I am no longer an "official" Japan mom, but couldn't be happier that son is stateside:)))))    Even when life gets too busy, as it has been lately, I still think of you'all and am glad "once a Japan mom, always a Japan mom"- cause I'd be stalking you anyway, ha ha.  This is such a great support system and I couldn't imagine being without it.
So, moms new to Japan- how are your sailors doing???
How are you adjusting- I remember it well, those first couple weeks, felt really far away and happy and sad all at the same time.
