~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hi Lala.  Thank you for your encouraging words.  my daughter is in in fourth week, I finally received my first letter.  Made me so happy.  I can't stop looking at it :)

We are not members at Cotsco and do not have one near us.

And another question...Is it possible to bring my 11 yr old to PIR even though we already have the 4 guests filled?  Can he go as someone else's guest who is not using all 4 spots?

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on August 20, 2014 at 9:21pm

Hi everyone, since we have so many new members here I thought I would introduce myself again lol.  I am Lora, most of my friends and family call me Lala. My daughter had PIR in July 2010 (4 years ago) She married her husband while she was in A-school 4 days before he left for boot camp. She was an AO and was based at Oceana and then Norfolk and is now a veteran using her GI Bill to go to college. Today was her first day of classes. She and their 1 year old baby girl are staying with us for a while. Her husband is gone to do some extensive training with his command out of CA. It is nice to have them home for sure <3  I have been helping in the PIR groups on this site and facebook since she graduated from boot camp. I love helping and I am happy to do what I can to help all of you. My best advice is to write letters every day. The recruits live for mail call and you want them to have their name called for mail every night before lights out. Your encouraging words are what gets them through the next day until mail call comes again. Feel free to send me a friend request if you like and believe me when I say boot camp days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. You will get through this and we all understand exactly how you are feeling {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Thanks diannep for the information, we had already planned on staying through Monday just in case, so that part wont need to change.

Comment by Hesh'sMom on August 20, 2014 at 7:00pm

What is everyone doing for car rental for PIR weekend?  I keep hearing about all these great deals but can't find anything less than $200 for WEd-Sun.  Most places are closed Sun so we would have to return early.
