DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I got my first real letter today! It was more than I could've hoped for. Hopefully those who haven't received one yet will soon too.

Hi Ladies!!!!  I hope this "Day before Friday eve" finds you well and at peace.  I got to hear from my son today.  He called for security clearances and we were able to talk for quite awhile.  He sounded tired but very upbeat.  He called this morning while I had a classroom full of 1st graders!  When he realized I was in class, he apologized and said he'd let me go.  ARE YOU CRAZY?????  I said nope, the kids are busy working and he did not have to let me go.  I was NOT about to hang up until we had to.  :)   Let me say, I'm so proud of 22 little 1st graders!

Ladies, being part of this group has been a huge ray of hope.  It's so nice to connect with others who feel the same way as you do.

hugs to all....

Sharon

I got a call!! From hubby in Ship 13 Division 313!! Words cannot express the feeling of being able to hear his voice again!! It was short and sweet but he's doing GREAT and said that they've started receiving mail!

Hi everyone, I don't think I got the chance to introduce myself. I am Lora, most of my friends and family call me Lala. My daughter had PIR in July 2010 (4 years ago) She married her husband while she was in A-school 4 days before he left for boot camp. She was an AO and was based at Oceana and then Norfolk and is now a veteran using her GI Bill to go to college. Today was her first day of classes. She and their 1 year old baby girl are staying with us for a while. Her husband is gone to do some extensive training with his command out of CA. It is nice to have them home for sure <3  I have been helping in the PIR groups on this site and facebook since she graduated from boot camp. I love helping and I am happy to do what I can to help all of you. My best advice is to write letters every day. The recruits live for mail call and you want them to have their name called for mail every night before lights out. Your encouraging words are what gets them through the next day until mail call comes again. Feel free to send me a friend request if you like and believe me when I say boot camp days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. You will get through this and we all understand exactly how you are feeling {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Confession…My son did call on Sunday BUT he called his girlfriend and NOT me!  UGHH!  Knife to the heart!  ONLY YOU MOMS CAN UNDERSTAND THIS!  I'm sure he has no idea that  I know that he was able to make a call last weekend.  He would probably be devastated if he knew I knew.
