OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Codysmom, I also have mixed emotions for you! Dissapointed that his navy journey ended sooner than he thought, but so so happy to hear you get to see your son soon and that he is in good health. That is most important. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Your son has a different path that he will follow and it will be a great one! Give him big hugs when you see him from all of us!

Hello all...I am writing with mixed emotions to report that my son has received a medical separation and will be coming home! I sure am excited to see him but I just wasn't expecting our reunion to be under these circumstances! The good news is the medical issue is relatively minor but still  disqualified him! I would like to remain with you all and will be proudly (and teary) watching the live stream of PIR 10/03/2014! Thank you all...you have been a part of a very special time in our lives!! Love your sailors and Go Navy Always!!

My son left 15 days ago. The box and form letter already arrived. He called last Saturday and I missed it since I was running the vaccuum. Guess I will keep my cell phone on me from now on! I did not think he would call that soon. He was able to call my mom and she told me he sounded good and mentioned he missed home cooking. That made my day. Glad to hear about letters making there way back home to y'all. My son has never been much of a letter writer so I would be happy with a post card. Have a great Friday:)

I received 2 letters from my son today! I read it about 20 times. He hasn't lost his sense of humor! I'm grateful for that. He said he was perfectly fine and not to worry about him, among other things.

Made my day. I hope all of you received or will receive a note from your kiddo soon. Good night!
