DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Sorry to here your son had such a hard time, klgils.

Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons, a grandbaby? How awesome! I am a firm believer everything happens for a reason! I will take him back home any time I need too!

You are completely right, diannep. I cant possibly know what the future holds right now.

codysmom - Your son is still one to be proud of!  Some things, unfortunately are out of our control. Best wishes for a full recovery!

My son called Saturday night while my husband and I were at a local music festival. The noise and reception was horrible so our conversation was not good. He was not feeling well because he had two wisdom teeth pulled two days before. He was feverish and planning on going to the infirmary in the morning. He sounded like he really needed to talk and I could not hear him well. I was so upset when I hung up with him. My son is 26 and very mature but it is still hard not being able to call him back to check in on him.

Wow ZachandNik's Mom ... I understand! I was shocked when I got that news! God must have other plans!

FlowerPower thanks for asking and thanks for the prayers! Small nodule in lungs discovered on xray which led to full follow up! Not life threatening but was enough to disqualify him! We will of course seek further medical attention when he gets home but I believe all is well...(I think this is likely the result of repeated bouts of bronchitis) so says one doc! I told my son about the support and thanks from all of you all and it made him proud! He is a very kind soul himself!! Again...Thank God for NavyforMoms!

My daughter is being medically discharged, didn't see this coming.  She will be home in a week or two.

FlowerPower:  Never say never!  My son lived away for 1.5 yrs before enlisting, lived here for his 10 mos of DEP,  then off to Navy, then to a gf in TX, and now lives back home.....these are unusual days for this young generation.  My older son moved out on his own too for almost 2 yrs, but moved back home when his rental turned into a short-sale and he had to get out in just 4 days.  So....things happen.  I am a widow and had a house to myself (with dogs!) for almost 2 yrs before older son moved back home a year before sailor son did.  Soooo.....we give them wings to fly....but sometimes they have to come back to the nest for a while in such hard economic times.....Of course, while in the Navy, that won't happen, but you never know what life holds after the Navy!

Good Morning All !

Awe FlowerPower, I know right now everything seems so final and your may feel empty but believe me you have man many blessings to look forward to in the future. When my sailor left for boot camp I realized she would never live here again and it broke my heart. We still had 2 at home at the time but they have now also grown up and moved out to start their lives. My sailor blessed me with my first grand baby and now I have another blessing in my life. And now my sailor and her baby are staying with me while my daughter goes to school so sometimes they really do come home for long visits :) I suggest you find a hobby or maybe do some volunteer work somewhere. Both can be very rewarding. Maybe even get a new pet. It really can help :)

J'sstepmom, giving birth doesn't make you a Mom, love does! I can tell those children you have helped raise are VERY lucky to have you! And you are correct, we as parents are their home!
