OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Restaurant:

http://wildberrycafe.com/ in Libertyville. Think of it as a really super duper IHOP with much better food and service.

Here's the website for all the Navy Lodges, a handy one to keep in your United States Navy favorites!

https://www.navy-lodge.com/index.html

Go to Illinois, then Great Lakes and it will pull it up~~

Thanks so much. I've gotten really helpful info on this site. It's been a lifesaver.

Proudmom:  Recommended hotels from others who have "gone before you!"

Navy Lodge Great Lakes....book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID.  Close to RTC, great staff, simple but comfortable accommodations.

Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.....all close to each other (4-5 miles from RTC), close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for the families of the sailors.  Be sure to call these 4 hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.  Most hold a certain number of rooms at that discounted rate....but they go fast, so you need to call now.  Usually no penalty if you have to cancel/change....up to day before or day of arrival.

...and....welcome to the group!

Proudmom:  The most economical thing to do is to rent a car....there are some deals out there.....but if you really don't want to rent a car, then contact Sarge  847 212 0246 or email johnspadaro@att.net.  He shuttles to/from the airports and to/from PIR.  He will take care of you!

Comment by Proudmom on August 27, 2014 at 4:53pm

When arriving at the airport are there shuttles for hire to take you to your hotel if they don't offer shuttle service or do you need to get a taxi? We were really hoping not to get a rental car if possible.
