mrsb, had no idea what my son was talking about when he said they had "swim call" while underway with the USS TEXAS, but it was so nice to get that phone call & hear his voice. Will be glad when they are finally back at home port, so we can hear on a more regular basis from our sailor.

Kevsmom, so glad you heard from your son!!!  I know it had been some time!  I honestly have not heard about the swim call so am anxious to hear about my son's first adventure on his boat!  I can still barely believe he's out there in the big deep blue, as he called it. I can hardly wait until he gets back to port and calls me-I wish yours would call you more often though.  I thought I would be a mess right about now but amazingly I'm not. I know I have all of you right there behind me to hold me up if I need it.  Thanks to all of you Navy moms!

Good news today! We received a phone call from our son last evening. 27 days seemed like a long time but I know many of you have went much longer. He sounded great and enjoyed his first trip out. He gave a us detailed description of his adventure. Did a lot of dishes! Guess that's what all the nubs are expected to do, menial jobs. His rack and his buddies were located in the torpedo room and he told us he snuggled with a torpedo every time he slept! Most exciting part of the trip was the swim call! Wow, I've heard it mentioned here before but when your son gives you a firsthand account it's a lot different. Anyway most of what he told me all seemed familiar from the stories you've shared here I have to admit that helped a lot.

BunkerQB you listed a bunch of my favorites from Costco! Their rotisserie makes yummy chicken enchiladas too. I remember when I used to buy one and bring it home as an after school snack for my boys:-D

mrsb just read your comment and I told my husband some people have all the luck! I got nothin from my son when he was out not to mention he's been back a week and we received the ONE phone call on Saturday which I mentioned before we MISSED! I told my husband I guess we got one chance and that was it! Wish he was a little softer on his old mom and dad :-(

BunkerQB - that is a lot of people!  We shopped at the commisary which we found to be pretty inexpensive.  We did eat out to but there was only 6 of us.  I know we stopped at McDonalds one morning and my husband and daughter got the egg mcmuffin meal (I do not eat that awful food!) and it was $15.

mrsb - that is an awesome feeling. I was wondering why my son was flying under the radar and he sent me a text today.  It warms the heart to know they are ok.
