OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Yay another letter from my SR...she is a Damage Control Petty Officer giving her something else to do!!!she is sounding great and wants "stamp"...so stamps she will get...she did say the Div 12 ship 303 got picked to have their pictures taken at the Sept 11 blood drive and to go to ASBPG Great Lakes on Facebook to see their pictures...

Iris:  The date can change for a SR if delayed in training for any reason, but a division's PIR date will NOT change.  If you book your flights with Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) or Chicago-Midway (longer drive, about an hour or more, traffic). then there is no change fee if you have to change them and 2 bags check for free.  So check them out!

No problem booking hotels this early....if you have to change/cancel, you can do it up to day before/day of arrival with no problem.  But book directly with hotel, travel discount sites may have different rules on changing/cancelling.

Good Morning All !

Got our tickets, we are flying into MIDWAY on Thursday late morning.  Anyone else going to be there around that time, I saw that you can ride share using OLD SARGE, to save on cost.  We are staying at the Navy Lodge.
