Gotta be honest, I'm having a hard time with this. We've always been very close, but he told me two weeks ago that he was signing up - turns out he had been talking with a recuiter for months. It was so out-of-left-field for me that I'm still trying to come to terms with it. Seems like I just bounce between wanting to cry and being so very proud of him.

Thank you! I was having a bad morning and then I saw your post. You are absolutely correct!!! My son has been determined to do this despite all the people in his life questioning his decision. I am so proud to have raised a son who knows what he wants and goes for it. He feels like time is dragging too. It's hard to let go, but we have raised amazing young men.

He just mowed the grass for the last time.  :(  Next week I take over all those chores.  I'm gonna miss you kiddo.  LOL

I know what you mean. I haven't had to empty the dishwasher or take out the trash in years!!! lol

This is it...just a two more days. Wow!  I'm OK right now but that's subject to change at any moment.  How is everyone holding up?  Any special plans for the last few days?

does cleaning his room count? lol

Actually, we've got dinner plans tonighy with an old neighbor who's son he used to babysit and tutor. Sunday is dinner at home - the last of his favorite foods. I took Monday off so I could take him to the recruiters and then go home and have a meltdown in private. I'm working Tuesday to keep my mind off of everything since he doesn't want me going to MEPS or the airport. What about you?

Sometimes, like this morning, I look at my son and think "who is honestly going to let him carry any type of weapon or give him expensive technology to touch".  He's a goofball and has so much growing up to do.  I wonder if he knows this yet?  I can't wait to see him in a few months.

Aug 27th. I understand. It's a whirlwind of emotions. a bitter sweet day. My son left today.

Good morning everyone! It's Friday. That's one down, eight to go - woo hoo!!!

Our daughter left for BC the 26th as well. We have known for a long time. Made sure this is what she really wanted, and we are sure she will do great. She is smart, and determined. She wants an education and doesn't want to go in debt. But we miss her terribly and this not having contact at all is hard. looking forward to having her address so we can write!

My son arrived on the 25th and today I received his form letter.  Looks like he's in ship 12, div 333 with graduation on 10/17

Hi Grace! My son is leaving for boot camp on August 27th. My son joined the Navy when he turned 18 last February. I, too, was taken by surprise when he informed me that he was joining the navy. Last year we were discussing colleges and I was sure he was going to an arts college since he's such a creative person and have been taking art classes since he was a young boy. Although I'm very proud of his decision, I am also quite confused by it. I'm still getting used to the idea that I won't be able to see or visit him and vice versa, as often as I would like. :(
