OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hesh'sMom:  There are honor recruits (now sailors) next to the division numbers standing in front of your division section.  Your division will be lined up in front of you after they enter the PIR Hall.

Welcome Rocio!  Be sure to check out Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to drive to GL) or Chicago Midway (hour+ drive depending on traffic).  If you have to change flights due to a delay with your sailor, there is no change fee.  2 bags check for free also.

Hotels to check with are:  Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you don't have your own military id); about a mile from RTC.

Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, and Holiday Inn Express are close to each other, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for families the night before PIR, close to a big Walmart center with restaurants nearby, about 4-5 miles from RTC.  Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount (Navy Lodge doesn't have one but their rates are very good!).  Don't wait on the hotels as they can book up....no penalty if you have to cancel if you call them directly.

How do we know where to sit at the PIR so we can be near our Sailor's division?

Comment by girl64 on September 1, 2014 at 7:30pm

My son is div 292 also. I didn't get a call today so he might have needed to call someone else but he was on Facebook telling his friends he was at recruit heaven also. He said "having fun at bootcamp".  Imagine my surprise! I was afraid he was miserable. Glad they got to have some fun! I wish I could've talked to him. Maybe next time.
