Hi all I saw this article this morning about our ship being part of a rescue and finding a man over board from the USS New York on 9/11. Here it is (since it is posted on the internet I thought it is ok to post)  So happy they found him alive!!!!

From US Fleet Forces Command

ATLANTIC OCEAN (NNS) -- A MH-60R Seahawk helicopter crew embarked aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), performed the at-sea rescue of an USS New York (LPD 21) Sailor Sept. 11.

The amphibious transport dock USS New York initiated the successful search and rescue mission after the Sailor failed to report for muster. USS New York, USS Jason Dunham, the guided missile cruiser USS Vicksburg (CG 69), and Coast Guard Cutter Tybee also assisted in search and rescue (SAR) efforts.

The Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM-46) helicopter located the Sailor who was recovered by their SAR swimmer shortly after 11 p.m.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation. At this time, the Sailor is in the ship's Medical department for evaluation and observation and is being treated for minor injuries.

New York, Jason Dunham and Vicksburg are currently operating off the coast of South Carolina as part of an Amphibious Readiness Group exercise.

My Sailor's birthday is in October also. Found myself starting my grocery list for making his favorite meal and pie. And then went oops! I so hope the care package I sent gets there in time. If He gets a second to be online I know He will check in with His brand new Bride. I am lucky she does let me know.
With everything going on I pray for All Our Sailors and Military people.

Thanks for the info, ladies.  I usually don't know if he has been online.  He "talks" to his brothers via the computer frequently, but they say they have not heard from him in several weeks.  I know that no news is good news, and that when they are busy, the time goes by faster for them. Even though this is s short trip, October is his birthday month, and I miss him! I hope I will get a phone call or email soon!

It's only been two weeks and I miss my sailor so much already. This is just a short 2 month trip, I don't want to know how hard the "Big D" is going to be. Hopefully I will hear from him soon!

The green light on FB tells you when they are online and if you see that know they are okay even if they don't get to talk to you. Hope this helps.

I have only seen my son online twice and not even long enough for me to say hello. This is going to be crazy busy and no news is good news right now. When they are on D that is a different story. Hugs to all!

I only heard about a week ago when I noticed he was online and we were messaging each other but other than that no.  I do know they have been extremely busy.  Hope this helps. Oh and mail will take about two months to receive!!!!!!

Has anyone heard from his/her sailor in the past two weeks? I have not heard a word and am trying not to worry.

Good morning. Wow can not believe it is the end of August already. In June our Son married a beautiful sweet young lady that he met while still at Great Lakes in Chicago. So we helped pack up and moved them into their new place in Virginia Beach. My Son found this really nice apartment complex off base. I am so happy to hear of all the support from fellow wives that she is getting.

When our Son took us on a tour of His ship, WOW, I am such a proud Mom.

Have a safe day!

Hi. Being that I am in Wisconsin I think we are finally having spring. Haha

Not sure how odd this question is but here goes. In June we will be helping our new Daughter in law to Norfolk to be with our Son. Is it better for them to be on base or off base housing?  I have no experience with military housing.

I am so proud because he did the most romantic surprise proposal. And my understanding with the help of some friends it was all possible.  So proud.

Have a safe day.
