Pastlady, when my son got the nuke contract, it pushed his ship date from April to Sept. Well, around Feb. he got a call asking if he could ship out the next week. He turned it down, mainly out of surprise: he really wasn't in the frame of mind yet. I would advise your son that it is possible that the phone could ring and he could have the opportunity to ship out very quickly. As soon as he gets to a place where he would say yes, he should tell the recruiter to go ahead and accept any such openings, as they are only available for minutes. The next step past that would be to file a DAR for an earlier date. In the meantime, he should use his DEP time to prepare, esp. for the Physical Fitness Assessment part.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

New Nuke mom 1357 - I'm in the Mission Grove area of Riverside.  Where are you?  We should get together sometime.  We also have an Inland Empire group on here that gets together every once in a while......

Pastlady - ditto what Carol Aileen said. He should definitely start learning as much as he can now!  He can request to his recruiter to go sooner, but you (& he) will learn that the navy will do things on their own schedule.  Your son just needs to be prepared & be flexible!

1proudmama - glad to see you back and hopefully you are rid of all the computer viruses!  Frustrating when the computer doesn't want to cooperate ;-)

Co-Twin - any luck on the house showing?

J's/S'sMom - ugh that's not much sleep!  I don't know how these sailors can function with so little sleep....Oh to be young again LOL!  Sorry to hear that your second Nuke won't be getting leave after Christmas - but who knows, maybe it will change again!

We still have the hot weather only now we have the humidity on top of it.  I can handle the heat but the humidity, no thanks!  Yesterday we were at 17% humidity & right now we are at 35%.  I don't know how some of you do it :-/  (Listen to me, such a crybaby!)

Hope everyone has a great day!

1proudmama... My son was going to get sent to BS but a few days later there was a post he was staying in GC after all. He was happy as he has a little white sports car that he would have to have sold, not a snow car.

wow i had to read 10 pages to catch up. My computer had a bunch of viruses. I almost threw it out the window a few times.

Co-twin- like everyone else hope everything works out for you. Trials will only make you stronger. refresh my memory did your sailor get sent to NY or did he stay in goose creek?

william - those storms wow crazy. Your boy sounds like one smart cookie. So lucky to have him home now.

congrats to the 3 winners.

loved catching up on everyones stories and where they are in their lifes  journey.

Pastlady,  have you checked out these groups?

Both groups were lifelines for me 6 years ago when my son was in DEP and then BC.

Pastlady,

it is a good idea to prepare,  the more he knows before boot camp - memorizing the Sailors Creed and such, getting in shape, everything that he can do in advance will make it easier for him.

Still getting used to the idea of being a Navy Mom.  My son just had a review with a petty officer about expectations etc.  He may not ship out to basic until next April.  He is thinking of using some time to prepare, then asking if he can get in sooner.  Good idea or not?
