Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I don't play the game, but if I could get my Sailor to play it with me and maybe his twin too, that would be AWESOME! I'm trying to find ways to keep that connection with my Sailor alive. He started A-school yesterday and it took all I had within me not to send him a text to ask him how his first day went. I am dying to get some kind of message from him. I am going to send him a cute little text today just to say hi and hope all is well that way when he finishes in class today he'll see it. I just can't resist!

Play "Words with Friends" with them. Nothing makes me feel better than to get a notification on my phone that a word has been played and I know it's either my sailor son or my college son! They are the only 2 people I play with and it sure helps me feel connected to them ;-) Sometime it's days (& days) before sailor will play a word but when he does it makes me feel so good 'cuz I know we are thinking of each other! It may sound silly, but trust me - it's like Pavlov's dog experiment - you hear the notification sound & immediately you are conditioned to feel better. It's the simple things in life LOL! (I bring this up 'cuz sailor just played a word and it made me feel good!)

Comment by WearsLargeHats on September 16, 2014 at 12:33pm: Pastlady, when my son got the nuke contract, it pushed his ship date from April to Sept. Well, around Feb. he got a call asking if he could ship out the next week. He turned it down, mainly out of surprise: he really wasn't in the frame of mind yet. I would advise your son that it is possible that the phone could ring and he could have the opportunity to ship out very quickly. As soon as he gets to a place where he would say yes, he should tell the recruiter to go ahead and accept any such openings, as they are only available for minutes. The next step past that would be to file a DAR for an earlier date. In the meantime, he should use his DEP time to prepare, esp. for the Physical Fitness Assessment part.

Pastlady - ditto what Carol Aileen said. He should definitely start learning as much as he can now! He can request to his recruiter to go sooner, but you (& he) will learn that the navy will do things on their own schedule. Your son just needs to be prepared & be flexible!

1proudmama - glad to see you back and hopefully you are rid of all the computer viruses! Frustrating when the computer doesn't want to cooperate ;-)

J's/S'sMom - ugh that's not much sleep! I don't know how these sailors can function with so little sleep....Oh to be young again LOL! Sorry to hear that your second Nuke won't be getting leave after Christmas - but who knows, maybe it will change again!

We still have the hot weather only now we have the humidity on top of it. I can handle the heat but the humidity, no thanks! Yesterday we were at 17% humidity & right now we are at 35%. I don't know how some of you do it :-/ (Listen to me, such a crybaby!)
