My son leaves for BC on September 9 from St Louis. It's getting harder every day. I'm trying to be strong so he doesn't worry about me but I am not good at hiding my emotions.

My son is also leaving from st louis on the 9th of september! and I feel just like you.

MySailor leaves from Houston on the 9th also. I know exactly what you mean, I've had to fight back tears more than once already

Hi, I feel the same way too !! My son leaves 9/9 from Anaheim.  I'm trying to be strong and just enjoy every moment I have with him until he leaves.

I'm so glad I'm not alone. It is really comforting to know it's not just me feeling this way. Friends I talk to tell me I should be happy for him, they don't get why I'm so sad. I am very happy for him and excited to see where this new career will take him. I know he will do great things, he is always so determined to be the best he can be at everything he does, but I know he will be sad to leave his girlfriend and so unsure what this new life will do to their relationship and it will be so hard not being able to pick up the phone and talk to him. I am very close to all of my boys, I have been seperated from their father for 4 years, my oldest son is away at college for his second year, that was hard for me too but he is only an hour and a half away and I talk to him all the time and see him very often, so this is quite different. Nick is my middle child and has always been my rock. I know it's selfish but I'm more worried how I will do without him than I am how he will do. He actually asked me the other day what I will do without him, I couldn't even begin to answer that question. Thank you all for this support group. Here's to hoping the heartache will lesson soon for us all.

I feel exactly like you do, my son just left yesterday and I can not believe how bad this hurts. I know it will get easier but ouch .....how are you doing now?

I'm ok. There isn't a day that I don't cry but it has gotten a little easier. Getting his box and letter with his handwriting was such a relief. I now have to wait to hear his voice again, but at least now I can write to him and that is a relief. My best advice at this point is to keep yourself busy and pray every day and talk to people who are in your situation and can honestly know what your going through. Hang in there, we are here for you!

My son leave on the 9th as well; we are from Entiat Washington. He flies out of Spokane on Tuesday and we have a small cheerleading squad going to watch the swearing in and to see him to the airport. Am getting teary-eyed just writing this....

My sailor is at the hotel and going to MEPS tomorrow. It was so hard to stop the hug today. I know I will see him tomorrow when he swears in, but I too am having a really hard time with this. I know he will do great, and I am so proud of him. But he is my baby, and I already miss him so much.
My blue candle is lit for all of our sailors today. My stomach will be in knots till I get that call.

Got my call!

My son left for boot camp from Albany, NY 09/09/14.  There were 2 other recruits who left with him so I was thankful he wasn't alone for the start of this wonder journey and next chapter in his life.  The people working at the MEPS center were very organized and informative.  We had some laughs with other families and enjoyed the final moments together before all the recruits from all branches of the service loaded the bus for the airport.  Thanks to cell phones he was able to keep in touch with us until that final call in the Great Lakes letting us know he arrived safely, what to expect next and the final "I love you".

This morning we opened a letter that we promised we wouldn't open until we knew he had arrived in boot camp.  Needless to say the flood of emotions was overwhelming.  His letter was full of pride, love and his sense of humor.  I can't wait for the first one to come from the Great Lakes.

Red that's so awesome. I know you will treasure that letter.
