Well its been one week that my son left for boot camp and not a day goes by me missing him. I received his box yesterday and was hesitant to open it but I was able to get the courage and did it. And as I expected I broke down, I held his belongings tight to me and was smelling them remembering of him when he was a baby that I held so tightly in my arms. I've wrote to him everyday that he has been gone. And we're counting down the days until his call to hear his voice. I'm sure and hoping this gets easier as the days goes by. I should be use to it because my husband is a U.S Navy veteran but as us mothers know the love for our children is such a different love. I'm excited to be part of this group and thank you to everybody that shares their experiences with us.

My son left this past Monday the 15th.  My husband and I couldn't wait for his last phone call at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning to tell us he arrived safely.  I, too, will be racing to the mailbox for that first letter!  You basically said everything that I'm feeling, too.  Mothers and sons have a very special bond.  I just have a thought that crosses my mind or look at a photo, and just get weepy-eyed.  My co-workers are all very supportive, and leave me alone when they see me with a tissue in my hand.  :)

My son left Monday the 15th as well. Got the 28sec "I am here" call. All he said was" You be getting my things soon and I will write as soon as I can" My heart is still acheing. Cry again today after I heard his favorite song on the radio, Welcome to the hotel California. His my only son so definitely understand how you feel.

You really can't count on his call being on a certain day. Even though the recruits say they will call in two or three weeks, it could be before or after that. Don't expect a call, but have your phone ready at all times 8 am to 8 pm CST and be pleasantly surprised if you get a call. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls for more information and it even gives some times when you can relax and know that you most likely will not miss a call.

I am just crying reading your post and all the comments, it is so true about Moms and their sons. My first born left on the 16th of September... His brothers and I tracked his flight on computer after we left MEPS.. Got his last phone call.. Got his belongings in the mail..I am still waiting for that letter... I love this website and all if you for posting...I know that I am not the only one alone in this.

Thank you everybody for your feedback it means the world to me just knowing that we "The moms"are not alone. We have each other and this wonderful website to thank. Well I received a call from him on Saturday morning and it melted my heart to hear him say "mom". I wanted to cry but held it in because I didn't want him to hear me. It was a very brief call not long at all but it didn't matter just as long as I knew he was doing fine. As we said our goodbyes he told me thank you for raising him and for the man that he now is. Hearing him say that I couldn't help but cry. I'm excited and counting dien the weeks, days and hours till I see him and hold him in my arms.
