OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Do the recruits know anything about battlestations or what to expect before it happens? Are there any guidelines about what loved ones can or cannot tell them to expect?
Comment by ambermc on September 18, 2014 at 10:14am

BCR, I bet they do look good in those dress whites! :)  Especially after seeing themselves in the same thing everyday.

Diannep, I don't think you can tell me when 947 will go to Battlestations since it's randomly placed among the other divisions, but if you have any clue, I'd love receiving it! :)  Also, can someone remind me why the date is a secret?  I thought I read about it somewhere, but I can't find it now.

Thanks all!  Love this group!

Good morning diannep.

I was hoping you could please share with me what date my SR will likely have BattleStations?  If you have already shared this for 14/310, I am sorry, I missed it.  Thank you for your help and dedication to this site!

Received a letter today. Of course, they are getting excited for graduation. As of Sunday when he wrote this, they had 2 more inspections, one test, a physical fitness assessment and of course Battle Stations. He also repeated again how they are all very excited about graduation.

My son's writing is SO SMALL...I can barely read what he says. LOL We keep telling him, we are getting older...write BIGGER!
