Hello all!!

Rena--praying for him also!

Anchors--congrats!!  If you like, give him an extra sqeeze from all of us!

So, this radio silence is killing me. I am spoiled by my son, and usually talk to him at least weekly and usually get to text daily. His a school has their comp on Monday, & I know that they are in major study mode, but I have only been able to have one short conversation with two weeks, with no answers to my texts. Ok, my venting is over. On the bright side, I get to board a plane on Wednesday morning, and fly off to South Carolina, and get to squeeze that boy! I just miss him, that's all. Anyone else from 1429 experiencing the same emotions as I am?

Rena aka Vincent's mom, including you and your son in my prayers. Hope you can contact him soon. He must be really busy with school and hopefully, really soon, will find the time to let her mom know he's just fine.

What section of nuke school is your son in? A school, Power or Prototype?

Please pray for my son Vincent in school, South Carolina. I have not heard from him and I cannot contact him. I know there may be many others who have kids with needs that are in the military. I will be praying for you as well. God bless you

Fleet week sounds fun. I live in Central Virginia, and will have to make it down to Norfolk sometime and see all festivities.

To all the Californians suffering through the smoke and fire I hope they get things under control and none of your properties are affected.

B'sNukeMom...how cool that you are going to Fleet Week in SD and get to see all the cool ships.  We plan on going to Fleet Week in SF in October.  I can't wait!  It is going to be during the twin's birthday week so we are celebrating by camping north of SF and driving into the city to go see the ships come in and see the Blue Angels perform.  It's going to be a LOT of fun!  I wish both boys could be with us, but I know that at least one of the boys will be having fun with us and he can get a little taste of what his brother will be experiencing in the future.  I'm so looking forward to meeting several Navy Moms in SF that weekend too.  Sure would be AWESOME if they have some Navy Merch available that weekend. You never can get enough of that!  LOL  We are still waiting to get more up to date information on the Fleet Week website to firm up our plans for the weekend.

I loved seeing all of you share your pics of your Sailors on the couch.

We are getting smoked out here at the foot of the Sierras. There is a really bad fire about 100 miles Southwest of us near Placerville, CA and the smoke has been filling in the valley with smoke every afternoon for the past 3 days.  The fire grew 60,000 acres in one day!  Last night was the worst of the smoke, but it's pretty bad again tonight.  The latest on the story is that today they arrested a guy suspected of starting the fire.  It's such a tragedy.  The area that the fire is in is in the high Sierras where it is all pine trees and wilderness.  It truly breaks my heart as we love to drive through the area when we head over the hill towards Sacramento.  Please pray for the firefighters who are working really hard to get it under control.

Good idea Co-twin to start the discussion above on current places to stay in GC.  Hopefully everyone can chime in & say where they recommend staying (or even where they don't recommend!).  Seems the topic comes up often!

I found out that in addition to the Nimitz we will also get to tour the USS Somerset which is an amphibious transport dock ship and the USS Pinckney which is a destroyer.  And even better they will have a Navy Exchange Merchandise Tent so hopefully I can get me some more cool Navy stuff ;-) ('Cuz we all know one can never have enough cool Navy stuff!!)
