OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

To all the Californians suffering through the smoke and fire I hope they get things under control and none of your properties are affected.

We plan on going to Fleet Week in SF in October. I can't wait! It is going to be during the twin's birthday week so we are celebrating by camping north of SF and driving into the city to go see the ships come in and see the Blue Angels perform. It's going to be a LOT of fun! I wish both boys could be with us, but I know that at least one of the boys will be having fun with us and he can get a little taste of what his brother will be experiencing in the future. I'm so looking forward to meeting several Navy Moms in SF that weekend too. Sure would be AWESOME if they have some Navy Merch available that weekend. You never can get enough of that! LOL We are still waiting to get more up to date information on the Fleet Week website to firm up our plans for the weekend.

I loved seeing all of you share your pics of your Sailors on the couch.

We are getting smoked out here at the foot of the Sierras. There is a really bad fire about 100 miles Southwest of us near Placerville, CA and the smoke has been filling in the valley with smoke every afternoon for the past 3 days. The fire grew 60,000 acres in one day! Last night was the worst of the smoke, but it's pretty bad again tonight. The latest on the story is that today they arrested a guy suspected of starting the fire. It's such a tragedy. The area that the fire is in is in the high Sierras where it is all pine trees and wilderness. It truly breaks my heart as we love to drive through the area when we head over the hill towards Sacramento. Please pray for the firefighters who are working really hard to get it under control.

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on September 18, 2014 at 5:08pm: I found out that in addition to the Nimitz we will also get to tour the USS Somerset which is an amphibious transport dock ship and the USS Pinckney which is a destroyer. And even better they will have a Navy Exchange Merchandise Tent so hopefully I can get me some more cool Navy stuff ;-) ('Cuz we all know one can never have enough cool Navy stuff!!)

We would like to do the same and stay the week over the Thanksgiving holiday. My husband would like to stay with our daughter in her apartment but I am not sure if that will happen. I will post more as we make solid travel plans.

when my son was in GC we visited him about 5 or 6 times within the almost two years he was there. we love traveling and SC. and our sailor too of course!!

Looking forward to the weekend - hubby & I are heading to San Diego tomorrow afternoon for Fleet Week Festivities! We'll get to take a tour of the Nimitz and see some other stuff that's happening on Coronado Island. Should be fun (& I'm hoping to get me some Navy mom hugs from some sailors! Hope I don't creep them out - LOL!).

Co-twin - yep, maintenance on the reactors causes a bit of a slowdown. They usually account for that when they schedule the grad dates but BS has just been having 1 delay after another. Hopefully GC won't have any problems & yours will breeze right through in 6 months! (Don't hold your breath though LOL!).

I lucked out & got a call from sailor last night (almost 1am his time 'cuz he's on mids) & still nothing on a grad date. He did say they had a great time in NYC on their 4 days off. I was telling him how hot it was here (almost 80 at 10pm PST) & he said it was 40 there! Yikes! Too cold for me (& he even said it was too cold).

It was perfect, quiet and 9 min. to base. a straight shot to base. Owner really nice (John on here_ He wants you to book through the VBRO place, do a google search If you can't find it You could call him. but he would prefer not to be called unless you need him after you book it. I got in late, after 10pm and he waited there for me so I know where I was going and he gave me the key and showed me around. It was great. The pic I posted earlier today with my sleeping sailor was on the couch in the cottage.
