Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Didn't know that they would be able to call this early...just realized that the call I missed this morning must have been him. I wish he would have left a message....

My poor SR. I don't think he got to talk to anyone on the phone today. My phone malfunctioned and Grandma did n't answer because she didn't recognize the number. So sad for my son.

Got a phone call from my son today! One happy mama here!!!

Yes, that would be great.  I will message you and we can get more details and make plans as the date draws near.

Thanks!

Diannep - thanks again!

MommaDuck:  Occasionally they do not fly out until Sunday, but if he flies on Saturday, you can sightsee around Chicago (you can take the train into town....the station is right next to RTC).  You also may want to spend time with your sailor at the airport before he leaves.  He may not leave until later in the morning or even in the afternoon, so you would have lots of time with him then.

Chompermom:  Our sons are together!  We should get together, too!  Your son will be ok....hang in there!!!

My son's box hasn't come yet, but I got his form letter and my phone call this morning!  I was at work but able to answer luckily!  He sounded so good....but I cried when he hung up.  And now I'm crying again just thinking about it.  I am lucky that he is going to be in A school near me, but a little frustrated that he told me this morning that he will be a G&G.  I am having to go w/o husband and didn't book my flight home until Sun! :-(  Ship 14, DIV 354

Thank You diannep.  Every little bit of information helps me to understand what he might be going through.  I've looked at every page and powerpoint on the RTC site.  This is the sort of thing that they don't post but we still have questions about.  :)

He may have called Grandma when he couldn't get me. I haven't been able to reach her to ask.
