Hi All - Happy First Day of Fall!

Had a great time in San Diego at Fleet Week.  Spent a lot of time on the Nimitz - got to meet the Commanding Officer - Capt. Jeff Ruth.  He has been through the nuke program (when he was 42!).  He saw my hubby's hat that he was wearing (say's NNPTC Power School) and came over to speak with us.  Very nice man.  Some interesting stories he shared.  Also met a nuke chief that we spent over an hour talking to....he answered any question that hubby & I had and was just a pleasure to speak to.....put my mind to ease a bit about what to expect when sailor hits the fleet ;-).  Also toured the USS Somerset which is named in honor of the passengers & crew of United Flight 93 that crashed on 9/11 in PA.  It is an amphibious transport dock.  Very emotional... Overall we had a great time - if you ever get the opportunity to go to Fleet Week I highly recommend it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Well after not getting to chat with my Sailor this weekend due to him studying for his first test today.  I'm happy as a clam, as he texted today that he did REALLY awesome!  He almost got a perfect score, but noticed the instructor marked one correct that was not.  He brought it to his attention and had the score changed.  I bet that was a test too!  So proud and can't wait to see how this journey moves along for him.

William, my son has been in Hawaii since April after finishing prototype.  It sure is a long way from home but he seems to be enjoying it.  His sub is in dry dock but it sounds like he may be getting his feet wet soon on another sub.

Best of luck to your son. I'm sure they'll be bumping into one another:)

My son got all his stuff moved to Hawaii by the Navy and he is getting paid BAH now and will continue to be once he arrives in Hawaii.

I am DEFINATELY getting a sofa shot next time (probably/hopefully Christmas) seems like that is all he wanted to do when he was here, and EAT and workout. We have a full scale gym and he worked out every day. Hard to believe he is already back at GC waiting for Power school to start Oct 6. I am preparing a care package to send next week.

MOMofDREW  I laughed at your post. Do they get off base housing allowance? Do they get a move? my sailors tell me with budget cuts the navy only pays two moves now, one of your choice and one upon retirement. So if they plan on sticking with the navy for a career they have to be choosy as to the one move. Is this accurate?

What are the quarters like in Hawaii for the submariners?  Is it like PS?  In other words, where do they put all their 'crap' they accumulated in PT?

He called earlier, all I needed.
I always tell myself this is deployment practice :)

and dads.

When your sailor is deployed, you go about your business the best you can, hoping every minute that you'll get a call from him. Most of the time, the phone is silent. Then one day, it rings in the middle of the night. Often, I'll wake up before the phone rings because I just KNOW it's my boy. All submariner moms can relate to this scenario.
