N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good morning from a chilly morning in Wisconsin,

I wish that I had not cleaned our son's room but, with the house being on the market, I really had no choice. Every time I go down into his room, I want the clock to go back. I want to see him down there in that room full of of his survival tents and so on. BUT.....SUPER EXCITED! The countdown is on. I just said to my husband yesterday, " I still have not bought any boxers ". I better ask, maybe he too does not want them.

Have a wonderful day to everyone!

Good Morning All!!!
I "finally" worked the nerve to organize and clean my SR's room yesterday. Left all his things in place just organized it all. To my surprise, it was quite comforting. Going through drawers and seeing all the things he kept. Little notes that I had written him over the years. It gave me such a peace. It was like he was there. So weird. Maybe because I am so excited we are a week and a half away!!!!!! :) oh and the last time we spoke, I asked him what clothes he wanted me to bring. Boxers etc. He said no boxers. That he was actually used to the "skivies" now. That made me laugh so hard because he was NOT a happy camper about that detail in the beginning. Haha

Dcmmom,

I booked with Enterprise Rent-A-Car as listed on my PIR Tips.  They accept debit cards and didn't require a deposit when I used them.  It is the same one just off the O'Hare airport.  They have a shuttle that you catch outiside of baggage claim and their phone number is on my Tips~~

DylsMom,

Any chance you can borrow a coat from a good friend or relative?  It will save you from having to purchase one for this trip only!

DylsMom:  ambermc has a great idea!  And the Walmart she mentioned is right next to Sarge's MeetandGreet so it would be very convenient!

After my son's PIR, he didn't return from his ship for about 30 minutes.  But he admitted he was talking to all of his shipmates before he left!  :-)

I want to suggest Lovells in Lake Forest for those looking for a nice place for lunch/early dinner for their sailors.  Owned by Astronaut Jim Lovell, we have heard rave reviews on it.....sailor eats for free.  They take reservations.  For those wanting to make reservations anywhere for lunch (not for GL A School students....they will be moving over to that base until mid afternoon after PIR)....you probably don't want to make them before 1 pm....gives you time to look around RTC and get to your place for lunch.

PIR ends at 10:30 and liberty call at about 10:35. They are prompt.  I don't know if your son will have to go do anything after PIR.  You might as him while you still have a chance to get a response, or someone here probably knows.  My SR's box of stuff was returned to Great Lakes because no one signed for it, so we have to go get that box before we can leave.  He's HOPING they will let him stash it with his stuff so he can leave with us directly from PIR, but we'll see.
