Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Hi fordfamily - my only daughter left for college in August and my son (one of 3 boys) leaves Oct 1 like yours.  I'm right there with you!! We are having his "anchors aweigh" dinner tomorrow night.  It's been a great distraction to go into party planning mode.  While I am so very proud of him, it will be tough.  Some solace in knowing what an awesome time PIR will be!  (And crossing my fingers that it's Thanksgiving week :)  I was in the grocery store today and mentioned to a fellow church member that he was leaving and she was such a meanie.  She said, "oh no, I wish he hadn't done that."  I was amazed at how insensitive she was.  I simply told her that I didn't share her wish and that I was very proud of him.  You and your children will be in my prayers.

Zaksmom, By counting 9 Fridays, PIR will most likely be 12/05/2014. He should be eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt A Sailor program though. Some "A" Schools do allow Sailors in "A" School to take Leave for part of the holiday stand down around Christmas and the New Year. He will have to wait and see what happens after he gets to "A" School to know how it will go for him.

My son will leave Oct 8. Im such a crazy mix of emotions I dont know what Im doing. So very proud of him yet very broken hearted when i think of not having him here. I want the best for him and I know this will be a wonderful experience for him. I - like many of u Im sure - am wondering how the holidays will be. He may be graduating somewhere close to Thanksgiving? And A school is in Pensacola Fl so I assume He wont be home for Christmas. :(.

Hello.  My son leaves for boot camp on October 1st.  He is my oldest child and my youngest just left for college in August.  I'm having a tough time dealing with this.  I am so proud of my son but very difficult to imagine him not being around or to hear his voice.

Hello, my daughter leaves for Great Lakes Oct.7. She is my oldest and first to venture out to start her journey. She is also the first woman in our family to enlist into the military.

My son leaves from TX to BC October 1, 2014. Great thanks to all the parents who have been there and can offer so much advice and "what to expect". This is my first child to leave home and there have been a lot if tears. Even though I'm prior service myself and can remember BC like yesterday it's still "tearful".

Hi my fellow Navy moms,

My daughter left from NJ for BC last Oct. 7th, her PIR ended up being Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving. Maybe some of the following info will be useful to some:
*We stayed @ Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire, wonderful staff, comfortable & clean rooms! Comp breakfast & dinner @ night down in the dining area. We arrived on Tues, rented a car (the base is maybe 15 mins away!). Grocery stores all very close to do some shopping. If you stay @ Homewood Suites, they have a full-sized fridge, microwave, 2-burner stove, pots/pans, dishes, etc & a coffee maker! The hotel staff was wonderful, even though most were off on Thanksgiving, they all made different dishes & put them out for the guests! Such a wonderful & thoughtful thing to do! Wherever you stay, get PLENTY of your sailor's favorite food, snacks & drinks!

They will be very hungry & tired!! Just go with the flow & follow their lead, it will be their 1st time back in the civilian world after 9 wks ...

If you want to do Thanksgiving dinner, make your reservations as soon as you can or you can order the dinner from the grocery store or restaurant for that day. My daughter said she didn't want to go out to dinner, but of course she changed her mind on Thanksgiving day & everywhere was booked.

Be early on the morning of PIR & make sure to have your parking pass & ID, no ID, they will not let you in! Dress warm & in layers. Make sure everything is charged up & that you have plenty of Kleenex!

My daughter attended A School there, so she had liberty all weekend! She ate & slept a lot!!

Even though I was sad to see her go, I was so very proud of her! When you get that phone call saying they made it there, it's so wonderful & the letters priceless!!

The time will actually go by quicker than you think!! Enjoy the ride!! God Bless!!

Hi Nick'sMom, My son left in Oct. as well, PIR was the week after Thanksgiving, they were escorted to American Legions, VFW's & given Thanksgiving dinner use of cell phones an computer time. Will go by faster than you know. Thanks to Nick

My son leaves for BC on October 6, 2014. PIR looks like it would fall on the Friday after Thanksgiving, in which case PIR would be held on the Wednesday before, however I was told to take into consideration the other holidays in Oct/Nov and that PIR would probably be December 5th. Does anybody have any feedback on this? It really sucks not being able to make travel plans in advance especially since PIR will fall around the holiday.
