OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Has it expired/is it going to expire or does it need to be renewed for a different reason like her husband has a new rank or re-enlisted so his termination date needs to change?

I have a few questions. My SR spoke with his recruiter today - last meeting before he leaves for boot camp. But a few things came up. Recruiter said SR will have 2-3 weeks of living in barracks in Monterey when he gets there. Any married spouses experience this? And for the move, they said they won't pay for this move for a-school to Monterey. I'm just confused by all this since we've never done this before so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Elizabeth - first off, bootcamp goes by quick! There isn't really anything designated to that sort of thing mainly because its different for everyone. And you can never believe what you hear. You CAN go by other peoples experiences and learn from them. This site is great for that. And everyone is SO helpful. I could go on and on but this "comment" would turn into a novel. I have a blog that I try to add "navy" stuff to whenever I think about it. It has a lot that may be helpful or at least a start for you. http://evataylorthompson.blogspot.com/2015/02/planning-wedding-whil... Check out the PIR for dummies post too! You'll need to plan for that soon! ;) This stuff isn't fact, as I said its different for everyone depending on circumstances. Its just what we experience and hopefully tips and ideas to help other people have an idea of what to expect! They're all linked on the left of the page.

Hey everyone! My husband is currently in BC and I am missing him so much. This is the first time apart...ever. We got married last year but were waiting on the wedding ceremony because it our dream for me to marry him in uniform. So to keep me busy I have been doing accumulating info and budgeting everything. Is there any specific sites or info that would be useful to achieve our dream?

It's really hard to "plan" anything. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless EVERYTHING is refundable. I've heard and seen horror stories of everything being planned and ready only for the bride or the groom (sailor) to not get back from deployment in time or get deployed unexpectedly..... and thousands of dollars went wasted.
Soon after we got engaged we decided it was best to just get married at the court house and play it by ear. He was in school at the time and we didn't know what would happen after or when. So, I absolutely didn't want to plan or even think about having a "real" wedding only for the plans to change a billion times and maybe end up having to wait a VERY long time to actually be married. Not to mention my family lives all over the country and a few in other parts of the world. Its not fair to them to plan something that may get postponed. When we found out my husband was able to take leave over the holidays and it would be approved, I then threw together a wedding in 3 months with the help of my mom and friends.
Its not "normal" and some people don't understand why we may do things the way that we do them. We have family members who are still upset that we eloped. But, we aren't in "normal" situations. Most engaged couples have all the time in the world to plan their weddings and make them perfect. We don't have the luxury of time.
If you find that you CAN throw together a ceremony or reception, use zazzle or vista print for cheap unique invitations and definitely look through pinterest for affordable diy wedding decor ideas. My mom and I did my whole wedding ourselves with the help of some friends. We used cranberries and candles to save money on centerpieces. Then made cranberry wine with it all after the wedding.
And absolutely use your connections. Ask your friends if they know a venue or HAVE a venue, a farm, barn, winery. Someone may know a baker, or a caterer or be related to one. You'd be surprised. My photographer was a friend from college, and the venue was owned by a military family who was 100% flexible with all of our needs. Even had a generous military discount.

I am NOT a Navy wife but I am the mom of a new sailor. He has been in the Navy for about 5 months.he got engaged over christmas. He and his fiance are having a hard time picking a wedding date because they are not sure of when he will be available. He is getting ready to deploy and will be back around July or August. Can anyone give us any ideas on how to set a wedding date a year in advance when 1 Party is in the Navy? Thanks for any help

Hello, I'm a new navy wife. We got married on July 17th of this year! :) However I was wondering if we'll ever get the BAH from the month we got married. They keep saying we'll get half the months BAH and it will be in my husbands next pay. Its been about 4 "next pays" and still no July BAH. Granted, its only $600 but it adds up.

Hey ladies... this is probably a stupid question but with my husband being gone and me being very new to the navy wife ordeal.. I need help. Tricare... it is my understanding that I am already enrolled in Tricare standard as he enrolled me into DEERS. is this true ? If so.. is there no insurance card or number or anything? or.. how do I get that? TIA
