Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I am reading your comments in the USO at the airport! My sons flight leaves in just a little while. I'm so very proud of him- but it's going to be a long ride home! Prayers for all of you and your loved ones!

fordfamily - YES!!!! My son arrived there last night as well. I am in tears every 20 minutes. He sounded nervous during his scripted call last night and I have been thinking about what he is doing every 5 minutes.

My son left yesterday for GL.  He was up since 4 AM at MEPS and won't be able to sleep until 10 PM today.  I spoke with him at the airport before he left.  Last night I got my 30 second scripted phone call.  I got off the phone and cried.  I am so proud of him but this is the most difficult thing to go through.  Any one out there whose child arrived at GL October 1st?

Jomac my daughter was supposed to ship to GL today also. 2 weeks ago she was pushed to October 15 due to MEPS being overbooked for today in Santa Clara CA. Your wait begins while my roller coaster still goes on. Good luck to your son. PIR should be day before Thanksgiving.

Well, my son was dropped off at MEPS yesterday and today is the big day. So many emotions. Just keep tearing up. I know he will be fine and I am so proud. With him living 700 miles away from me, I got to see him two weeks ago.  Wish I could have seen him yesterday.

I feel more anxious than I have ever felt in my life-In one week I know things will change forever.  I feel like I am forgetting things that need to be wrapped up/taken care of. My son is ever present in my thoughts and sleep is hard.  Next Wednesday hangs over my head, but I couldn't be prouder of his decision!!!!  If there is anything any of you can think of that needs to be remembered or done before they leave, let me know(:

My son leaves on the 1st for MEPS and flies out on the second for Great Lakes. So many blessings in our last days together. We had 50 family and friends for BBQ last Friday and they all wrote notes for our SR- it was so touching to hold that stack! However, on another note, I thought I was handling the anxiety like a boss. Nope- on the inside I must be a mess, because I woke up with hives this morning:) this too shall pass. And soon we will be at Pass in Review! In the meantime I am counting on my comrades in arms- N4Ms, and God to carry us through the ups and downs. Prayers for all your recruits and families! Peace in the Journey.
