The Gateway Inn is very close to where the MA's live. 210-671-2556 Is the number to call for reservations. We stayed in a Chief Suite it was really nice. Queen Bed with a living room, fridge, microwave, stove top and sink.

There is a very nice, convenient Best Western near one of the gates. It's just off the expressway. Nice breakfast, clean room, ample parking, close to base & friendly staff.

arwenevenstar3313: I was on same flight with my son, sailor when we left San Antonio. Since he knew he was taking leave after graduation we booked him a one-way ticket to fly home from SAn Antonio, which of course I booked my round trip to coordinate with his flight. Then when he gets his orders with ticket and flights for his orders, he had to call to have the outbound flight changed for the flight to go from home to wherever his orders are. Then you pay the difference for changing that flight.

Arwenevenstar3313 - I asked my son if there's a way for you and your sailor to fly together (my son drove) - he said that he doubted that you would be able to get on a flight with him unless you just purchased a ticket after he got his.  The problem is that the Navy doesn't give the flight information out until the last couple of days before graduation.  I took one of the guys to the airport and his flight info had just been given to him the morning of graduation.  If I were you, I would book a fight on Southwestern (because you can change flights without a charge) at about 4 or 5 in the afternoon.  Then, you can hang out at the airport with your sailor until it's time for one of you to board.  Also, you may be able to change your flight to closer to the time his is leaving once you know, if there's room on another flight. Sometimes they'll let you change at the airport.  Most of the sailors seemed to have flights leaving between 3 and 6pm.  Once graduation is over, they will have to officially check out of their rooms so I think the Navy takes that into consideration when booking their flights.  I think we left the base at around noon or a little after, but most were still there.

How much are the rooms there Holly?

Tygarmom - I was able to book our room myself.  They asked for my sailors name but it was booked under my name as a "Civilian".  He did not have to be with me when I checked in. Your sailor will have to get your pass onto the base set up, but he doesn't have to be at the gate when you get there.
