Good morning everyone. My son arrived on September 22. He probably was in a push group? We got a call yesterday from requesting a phone number for the high school. He said it was for security clearance. We didn't get to talk to him much it was a short call. Looking forward to graduation.

Good morning everyone.  Coming from NJ we'll be driving up, probably on Wednesday when I get home from work (about 6:30 am), with 3-4 drivers it shouldn't be too bad.  We're fortunate enough to have family in the area (Northbrook) that we'll be staying with.  I can say that we were there about 4 years ago for a wedding and stayed at what I believe was the Holiday Inn Express and it was pretty nice and the rates weren't too bad.

Southwest Airlines is not always more expensive....I got a great rate from here to TX a couple of years back.  Not only that, but there is no change fee if your SR is delayed (huge!) and 2 bags check for free, so please consider that savings when you are deciding on cost.---Airlines like Delta charge a hefty change fee....usually $150 per ticket....believe me, I know....I had to pay it when my son was in Bootcamp and got delayed!  Didn't know about Southwest then.  They fly into Milwaukee (45 min to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) and Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL, depending on traffic).

Good Morning All and welcome to new members!  Oh, and on Southwest, if you have to cancel for any reason, you have a year to use the ticket, which you can change (with no change fee) for any destination you would like.

Donna_Julie's Mom,

Try Delta Airlines. Ontario International Airport (ONT) to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) is $457 (6:00 am - 3:30 pm).  I didn't get the return trip info, but that's roundtrip.  This is the flight I took last year to my Sailor daughter's PIR~~

No problem Donna! I totally know what you mean, I get a little overwhelmed at times. Southwest also offers a group rate if you happen to be traveling with 8 or more people but that's about the only discount I've heard so far other than the military one but you need a military Id for it. Hope you find a good deal! Super excited for PIR especially now that it's already October

Donna- Mynin laws and I are flying from California, checked south west and it seems to be more expensive than others, but their less flexible option of "wanna get away" is pretty cheap. Just not refundable

Hi everyone,

I'm so excited for PIR! not excited about the expenses. Has anyone checked out air fare yet? I'm guessing internet search for cheap tickets is the best route?  South West out of California?
