Happy Tuesday!

Flights can be pretty costly.  We've used Southwest and they have been reliable.  I like them because you can make changes (for no fee) and bags fly free!  I've heard some moms on the FB group say that if your sailor calls them direct they do offer a military discount.  Other airlines might also offer some sort of military discount - your sailor just needs to ask!

I know we have a proto grad in BS this Friday.  Pack warm clothes ladies - my son said it's getting cold there!

MOMofDREW, there isn't a public site for that info.  The Navy doesn't publicly announce most submarine drydockings; the ones they do are the long ones, lasting more than a year.  Those announcements can be found with a google search for news of a specific submarine name - for instance, you can google ""USS La Jolla" and find a press release about it's upcoming decommissioning and conversion to a training ship, a job that will require drydocking.

it looks like I have a ton to learn!!!! what is dry dock? my son volunteered for s "boomer" so I guess I need to learn terminology
Comment by MOMofDREW2.0 on October 20, 2014 at 8:19pm

Is there a place where we can tell if a sub is in dry dock?

Greatness3: thanks for the info, he will check that out next time for sure.
Skysrcrapper: yes! It's nice he is looking forward to visiting home. I'm impressed he took it on himself to buy his own ticket. He's growing up so fast, not the same little Xbox boy.

also as soon as my son phases up he will have a car there and fly out of myrtle. I can get him a round trip for around $150 that was with a bag on spirit
Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on October 20, 2014 at 4:45pm

Riley'sMom...it was about $850 for mine to fly to Nevada. Crazy!  It cost less to fly both of us to PIR.   I'm just so glad he wants to come home.

Gretamae...I will suggest it next time to my son.  He'd probably like the train adventure too.

Comment by gretamae3 (nuke mom) on October 20, 2014 at 3:35pm
if I can make a suggestion have your sailors fly out of myrtle. they can take the train there and fly for a fraction of the cost. especially if spirit flies to your area

Hi All - Happy Monday - still trying to get computer up & running....it's sporadic right now but close to being finished!

britefuture - hope you get that new grandbaby soon!  It would have been nice for your sailor to see his new nephew but at least you got a nice visit!

Nice to see all the newbies on here....

Hope everyone has a great day!
