Gals,

Just a reminder that my "PERTINENT PIR TIPS" are for a regular Friday PIR with most Sailors leaving on Saturday.

You have a special Thanksgiving week PIR schedule with a Wednesday PIR and time with your Sailors 10:30 am - the evening, all day Thanksgiving with your Sailors, then on the night of Thanksgiving just after midnight when it becomes Friday, many of your Sailors will be bussed to the airports to fly out to their A schools~~

FTLW: Her daddy was her softball coach starting at 8 yrs old, then her brother's football, AND baseball, coach right after that... NO WAY we could be late to anything if he was in charge ;)I always joked that we were "trained," so it really is funny now!

Sorry MommaJ made an addition to my post.

That is a good policy as "Late" seems to be on time for me...I'm backwards LOL.

No, you definitely do not want them to get in trouble. Your loved ones may now be Sailors but they are still connected to Recruit Training Command and are subject to their specific rules. They can get punished for infractions.

It's a good distance from drop off to most of the Ships. And they must walk...no double-time or running allowed.

I would say no later then a half an hour before the actual time they have to be back in their Ship. An hour is better. "On time" is late in the military.

Here is a map of RTC: (It's public knowledge)

Click on the picture and it will open up into a new page.

On the Map. Buckley Road separates Camp Moffet (main in-processing area) from Camp Porter (main recruit training area) and Camp John Paul Jones (mainly for housing of the recruits).

At the top right Camp Porter side you will see the NEX. This is near Gate 6, where I believe the Return Gate is for the Sailors. You'll see a parking lot to the left (says Graduation Parking. Not valid as parking for PIR as there is a parking structure connected to the Drill Hall across the base. Folks used to have to park and walk all the way across. It may be used for overflow, but don't quote me on that) then the Chapel. The Chapel is the farthest that civilians may enter RTC (the Parking Structure is the marker for the opposite side of the base.) So you most likely will be dropping off in the Parking Lot. The Sailors must then walk all the way to their Ships.

BTW, Gate 8 off of OHIO is where you enter for PIR.

Thank you FTLW!!  That will definitely help.

"On time" has always been "late" with our family too....long before she even thought of joining the military ;) We definitely do NOT want them to get in trouble their last few days at RTC.

Hi Amanda!  From what I understand (I tried to find all the Veteran Mom's posts with no luck) the sailors need to be back between 7-9, but will have a firm time that day.  I made our reservations for 4, thinking about 1 1/2 hours for dinner.  I did mapquest, from the restaurant to RTC, and it's only 4 miles approx 10 min drive. Now I have no idea how long it is, from where we can drop the sailors off, for them to walk back to their ship.  Again....the veteran mom's will have a better idea of logistics :)  Hope that helps...sort of!

Hey everyone I am new to the site and filling in for my mom since she is not computer savvy. I have been reading your comments for a couple weeks now and have also read the RTC website etc. I'm happy to finally be a member and have the chance to chat with all of you here!

Hello Amanda, I made mine for 3pm to give us enough time so she can go back on time.
