My son was Very happy to be in prototype in Goose creek. He grew up high in the Rocky Mountains where winter is long and cold, very similar to upper NY. He likes it where it is warm mostly year round. He also has embraced the beach.

Thank's Baby Duckie - Originally I was going to do Milwaukee, but now I am thinking O'Hare so we can spend some time with him at the airport.Friday night/Sat AM.

He is a Non-Nuke MM, I think I read somewhere Nuke MMs do not go thru the BESS school.

Co-Twinsalorsmom, Thanks for the information. This makes sense to me now. So many things to learn. My son is hoping to finish up at Ballston Spa for prototype. But, prototype is still awhile coming. He will graduate A school at the beginning of December, then will start power school towards the end of January there in GC.

There are nuke MMs and non nuke MMs. The nukes go to Goose Creek, My son just started prototype in Goose creek this month. They will either finish up at GC or at Ballston Spa.

If they are a non nuke MM they go to Groton, CT. I am not site what BESS is but I am guessing it is non nuke related.

Ok now I am totally confused. I am a newbie and my son's Pir was 8-22-14. He is in the nuke pipeline and has filled out volunteer paperwork for fast attack subs. His rate is MM. He is currently in Goose Creek in A school, then fill start power school in Goose Creek. Then prototype school, not sure where yet. What is BESS??? And most of the comments here state for MM they are up north in Groton??? Please educate me. Thanks!!!

Unless one is a nuke MM then they go to Goose Creek.

Groton is further south than Hartford & on the coast. I grew up in Westerly, RI - very close to Groton. Believe me - the weather in Hartford is colder than Groton- but, again, if you are from warm and sunny, there's not much difference!

Which is why our house is on the market - Florida headed we are!

Cath Bubblehead I like to look up weather info. and there's a pretty good one called currentresults.com. According to them where you're at it gets pretty cold! Hartford, CT is on the list along with Chicago for coldest US cities during winter days brrrr! Now I think it gets where I live in Nor Cal. especially since I grew up a So Cal. kid.Temps in the teens are freezing to me and probably a nice balmy day in the winter for you :-D

Last year was unusual. It gets cold - but usually only a couple of storms. Definitely not GA weather!
Comment by scubagirl on October 22, 2014 at 11:06pm

Cath Bubblehead, yes GA does not have a harsh winter.  Last winter with the snow and ice was not normal for us.  True Chicago is harsh.  My girlfriend's son was in GL during the winter and she said it was rough.  He had to help shovel the sidewalks just so they could go to eat or any where on base.  He had snow watch several times.  He said it was brutal.
