So it is finally here. The day we have been waiting for since May. My son is at the Recruiter now and will be leaving for GL tomorrow. I am so excited for him but my heart is also a little heavy as he is not near. He did all of his recruiting while at college so I had to say my good byes last week. I wish I could be there to see him swear in tomorrow and give him one last big hug.

On a positive note, some of us have been getting nervous because we heard there would be no PIR on December 19th. Luckily norcal-_pops reached out to RTC and they confirmed that there would be PIR on the 19th so hopefully we will see our kids at Christmas for the Holiday stand down.

Anyone else leaving tomorrow?

Well.... Let's hope to meet on the 12th. An extra week at Boot Camp is no way to spend the holiday.

Yes, let's hope so!! But, it would not surprise me if they were at boot camp for an extra week for the holidays!!

According to the information lemonelephant has, there are no SR scheduled to ship out after yesterday until November. Everyone who had a late Oct date was either moved up (my son was moved up from the 27th) or moved back in to November. So it looks like if they made it to GL by yesterday, they will have the 12/12 PIR date. This makes sense because they are not shipping anybody out for two weeks and there are two weeks with no PIR. Fingers crossed this is what happens!

My daughter is on a plane to GL right now....so I'm a bit confused.  Recruiter said PIR of 12Dec, but I'm not convinced yet he knows what he's talking about.  A lot of what he said was/is flat-out wrong, sigh.

Maybe there are a few more going to make up the training group? I hope so. I really hope our kids have PIR 12/12.  Good luck to you and your daughter. I am sure you are looking forward to hearing her voice that she got there.

When she landed in Chicago, there were at least a few waiting with her for the bus, so she wasn't alone in going yesterday.  I got the call that she was at BC at about midnight GL time.

I keep thinking that it makes not sense to have them there for an extra two weeks so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are all in the 12/12 PIR. My daughter is thinking positively, she already talked to her professors about being gone the 11th and 12th. I just can't wait to get the form letter. I am a planner so the uncertainty is driving me nuts! LOL

I'll hope for that date. That sounds like some good logic on the ship dates but I never really understood Navy logic and I did 6 years as an ET :-)

I actually just got a call from my son's recruiter. I asked him if he had any info on the PIR date and he said it is the 12th!!! Now of course I know that is not written in stone but I need to block off the vacation days soon or I won't get them. :)

Sounds good.

Hey just a quick note to all who left Monday or Tuesday. I remember reading that you should suspend your SRs cell phone for the duration of BC. Your provider must suspend service and stop charging you (although this does not extend your contract) for military members who cannot use their service. I called Verizon (my carrier) and all they require is their home base and the commanding officer. I looked at the RTC site and used CAPT W. Douglas Pfeifle, USN Commanding Officer, Recruit Training Command as his Commanding Officer and GL as his base. They suspended it immediately. All I have to do is call back the day of PIR and they will immediately restore service. (I may do it a day in advance just to make sure it is done!)

Verizon is my provider also - I stopped into a Verizon storefront to suspend my son's account. No real issue but they asked for a copy of his orders. Naturally, I told then I don't have it and will never have them.

They suspended it anyway and, as My2kidz said, just call back right before PIR to restore it.

Also, if your SR is listed on your car insurance, call your provider and have them change your SR's status to military/student - it can make a significant reduction in your premium.
