Peejinator when are you arriving in Goose Creek?
Comment by Rhonda K. on October 22, 2014 at 6:40pm

Hello Nuke Moms,

I have seen a few posts on here about things to do in Charleston and I was lucky enough to visit there last year in November (before I knew my son was going to SC) and we had a blast.  Beautiful town and surrounding areas.  One thing I would recommend is to try to get to the Magnolia Plantation Tour. It was beautiful and we really enjoyed that.  If you get a chance, make a reservation at the Husk for dinner or lunch.  Great food with a very nice atmosphere and service.  We stayed at the Charleston Place hotel which is on the expensive side but again, worth it.  You can walk into town and shop til you drop. ;-)  We ate at the Fig restaurant  it was also amazing.  They have a graveyard tour and carriage rides that we heard were fabulous but we didn't make them.  We also walked along the boardwalk (along the water) and did a couple plantation tours.  They are beautiful and have allot of history.

We also went to Savannah which is a beautiful 2 hour drive and stayed at the Foley House. It is like a bed and breakfast. We loved that because you felt at home and you could walk to town.  We rented bikes and went on a couple walking tours.  Allot of fun and another beautiful area.  Hope this helps a little. Have fun!! ;-)

Is that 8 weeks after they get to GC?

peejinator... If I were you I would save that trip for Power school graduation. Your sailor will be coming home for Christmas.

My son has been able to leave base already in his INDOC period but had to be in full uniform. He has to stay within so many miles of base..... I honestly don't know too much though about all of it. You honestly probably won't know until his PIR because he will get briefed before hand.
Comment by peejinator on October 22, 2014 at 3:39pm

See, that is what I am worried about...if the kids that are coming in Nov. 22 will have to be INDOC and won't be able to leave???

Comment by WearsLargeHats on October 22, 2014 at 3:39pm

Peejinator -- the "Sailor's Schedule" discussion above lists the Phase 1 restrictions. Essentially he'll only be able to go off base on the weekend (incl. Friday evening), will have to be in uniform, stay within 75 miles, and be back by midnight. Thanksgiving and the day after are likely to be a special case.
You will meet your sailor at the Subway/miniNEX on Fletcher St. (we know it well!). I hadn't really thought about it, but that might be considered "on base" since you are in the Naval Weapons Station as soon as you cross the RR tracks on Redbank.
Your son will be thoroughly briefed on the liberty rules.
