So it is finally here. The day we have been waiting for since May. My son is at the Recruiter now and will be leaving for GL tomorrow. I am so excited for him but my heart is also a little heavy as he is not near. He did all of his recruiting while at college so I had to say my good byes last week. I wish I could be there to see him swear in tomorrow and give him one last big hug.

On a positive note, some of us have been getting nervous because we heard there would be no PIR on December 19th. Luckily norcal-_pops reached out to RTC and they confirmed that there would be PIR on the 19th so hopefully we will see our kids at Christmas for the Holiday stand down.

Anyone else leaving tomorrow?

Hello all!  My son left from Houston with your SR's.  It was a long morning as his paperwork for his Pay Grade was incorrect.  The 'Road to Goodbye' was long.  We parted ways with tears in our eyes saying we had recently had just a little too much 'together time.  LOL  I cry because I miss him.  Yet am truly at peace that he is doing what he is born to do.  Being with 'like minded' people is going to make him so happy.  I got the call too.  Not the scripted one. He said he was rested and ready to get on with it.  Now to watch for the box, letter etc.  I, like everyone else am anxious to find out his PIR date.  Looks like it is a moving target right now.

Your comment about too much together time made me laugh :) My son spent 5 years away at college, only coming home for breaks. So it was a LONG summer, especially after his sister went back to college taking the car they were sharing with her. I am lucky that I work from home because my car always seemed to disappear and I never knew if I was cooking him dinner or not or if it would just be him or 2 or 3 other human trash cans. I guess it is not as hard for me right now as for many others because he was away so much at school and he is quite independent. But I do long for a big bear hug, or even a quick text saying that he is loving the challenge. I am so happy and excited for him, just a little wistful for myself. My little boy is well and truly flown.

Oh and as for the PIR date, all indications are that everyone who shipped out at the beginning of this week should be in the 12/12 PIR. I had emailed my son's recruiter (I tried so hard not to be a helicopter mom, he is 23 after all so this is only the 2nd time I contacted him about anything) asking if he had any word and he called me right back and said he was scheduled for the 12th. We ended up having a nice talk and he was impressed at how much I knew about the process. I told him I was on N4M and he laughed and said he wished it had been around when he went to BC! I will wait on the form letter for his official address however to send mail. Another parent here also messaged me and he had contacted their son's recruiter and had been given the same date. Looks like they are not shipping anyone out now until beginning of November and they will get the 12/31 PIR.

My son left the 21st.  Per my son's instructions, I called his recruiter to get his address. He also told me that PIR was Dec 12th - he was surprised and said to call in a few weeks to confirm because that sounded too soon. I do have a question though: if they have PIR on 12/12, then will they go directly to A school (Pensacola) or will they maybe have a break? Anyone know?

IowaMom, it's looking like they will be going straight to A school and then may be able to take leave during the holiday hiatus from classes.  My daughter will also be headed to Pensacola.  I just hung up with my daughter's idiot of a recruiter, and he told me he didn't tell my daughter to have me call for the address.  (Tossing the BS flag, I was standing beside her when she was talking to him and could hear him quite clearly.....)  And yes, I know he might not have the correct address, but to have him straight up lie to me peeves me off.

I am so sorry you have had such a bad experience with your recruiter. They are not all like that. My son loved his so much that even when he came home from college, he refused to switch. I went back up there for the 60, 30, and 7 day meetings. I did not deal with him much because my son is old enough to handle this on his own but I have to say the few times I contacted him he was right on the ball.

I'm not even sure what the 60,30, and 7 day meetings are!  He didn't even tell my daughter I could go to MEPS with her.  My daughter is 21, so not a "baby" but still, would have been nice to have all the info.  (I will say, if 60,30,7 day meetings are before leaving for BC, my daughter didn't have that long, she was at MEPs the first time less than 3 weeks before she left)

Wow,that was fast! My son was in DEP (delayed entry) since May. This must be a real whirlwind for you. Most of us have had some time to prepare ourselves.
I am wondering the same thing about A school. I heard most likely he will leave for A school that evening after graduation. I am hoping for 12/12 PIR so that way he may get leave for Christmas. I hope I hope. My son's recruiter is also very unreliable and immature. I don't trust any information from him, so I am anxiously waiting for a letter with the address. Tomorrow will be a week since my son left. Hope his letter comes soon.

The Box arrived!  Our daughter just left on the 20th, and we already got her box today. Hope that means everyone is in the git 'er done by Dec. 12th mode at RTC.

Wow, that was fast! My son left on Tuesday so since Fedex not likely to deliver tomorrow, hopefully on Monday :)

Love your picture! Her last boat was powered by wind. Her next one, a Nuclear Reactor!

I am so confused!!! I'm so thankful for this web site- I feel out here on a limb in So Cal.

I hope someone has some information on the Holiday stand down. My son should have a Dec 19 PIR (left for RTC on the 20th) and he heads out to Charleston (Is that GC?- I'm just learning the acronyms)  after that. His recruiting officer informed him that he may be going to Charleston and may not be part of the Holiday stand down, as he may have to stay on base the two weeks? Please advise!
