Mary, We too took the shuttle when up there for PIR.  Worked out great for us.  We left on the 6:30 one and were in PIR Hall a little after 7.  Believe it or not, the "choice" seats were already gone in our division section (top bleacher row where you can lean up against wall and bottom row).  So I advise all to get there early and check out different seating options to see where you want to be.  Shuttles pass the line of cars so there is no waiting.

For those wanting to drive and who plan to take the train into Chicago after PIR (train station is right there next to RTC), you can bypass RTC and park at the train station.  It is about a 1/4 mile walk back to the front gate of RTC.  You will avoid any traffic leaving the base and be able to walk to the train station right after PIR.

Good Morning!

Mary,

For me, taking the shuttle was the best decision.  I had a rental car, but opted to have Sarge pick me up at 6:30 am (probably could have done a 6:15 am, but wanted to make sure I got my hot serve myself breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express Waukegan which opened at 6:00 am on PIR day).  Got us to graduation hall at 6:45 am, walked 50 yards to the entrance to the hall, got checked in, then in the last 2 spots available against the wall in the lower bleachers to lean against.just after 7:00 am.  Didn't want to deal with possibly getting a little lost or looking for parking with everyone else.

Sarge will pick up at all hotels for $3.00 per person each way and you are not locked into each 1/2 hour, but every 15 minute slots.  You can sign up at the Meet & Greet the night before PIR.  If you can't make the Meet & Greet, but still want to book him, keep his cell phone handy to contact him 847-212-0246.

To catch one of his shuttle back to your hotel, look in the parking lot to the right of the NEX for a Sarge shuttle or call to make sure which one is his because there are several other shuttles trying to get your business.

If one of the hotels offering a shuttle is the Ramada, please check out that hotel's reviews first as they are iffy.  Don't let the fact that a hotel offers a shuttle lock you in.  You want the accommodations to be clean and nice and in a good area.

The Navy Lodge just started offering a shuttle and they are an excellent hotel for what you pay~~

Does anyone know is it best to drive your car into the PIR event or take the shuttle that some of these hotels offer?

You are welcome, Kimberly!

Adorable, Lala!

Sara:  Yes, you can, but just know that they are entitled to search any vehicles that they choose to.

BlessedNavyMom shared very important info about visiting your SRs for Thanksgiving.  Please read her post below on this page.  If you have any questions, please contact RTC Public Affairs M-F   947 688 2405

If we drive our vehicle to the PIR on dec 5, can we have our luggage in the car? Getting conflicting information. Thanks.

Megan - Agreed! I am glad that some have received their calls, but it doesn't make it any easier for rhose of us waiting. I think my phone grew to my hand today. Maybe tomorrow...lol!

Got my daughters phone call today! So wonderful to hear her voice. She is doing good. Says she just misses the family. Very proud of my SR daughter.
