Hello, I just wanted to pass along a possible data breach if your sailors use Comcast. Our son had a letter from Comcast delivered to our house and also a collection notice arrived a few days back. We weren't sure the letter was real but it mentioned a data breach etc.. The collection notice had his last name misspelled, our son went to wherever he signed up for Comcast on base, they took the information, he was advised that when he gets a chance he might want to file a police report. My son believes he might not be the only one this has happened to. I really don't know the full details I just wanted to let people know about it. Our sailors at the school have enough stress as it is geez.
WOW...I'm a little behind again. Love all the stories being shared and the pictures.
Congrats to you SlezaksMom. Glad that things worked out for you to be with your Sailor for his graduation.
Britefuture...your grandbaby is absolutely perfect and precious.
As far a Halloween goes, I sent my son a care package with a couple goofy glasses and some tattoo mustaches for Halloween. I'm hoping he will do something wild and crazy with them and have a little fun. I sent him a TON of candy and wouldn't ya know, the day after I sent the box, he tells me that he's trying not to eat any sweets because they make his teeth hurt. So...I proceed to tell him that he is going to hate me for the box that is coming. I promised him I wouldn't send anymore candy, and he tells me. NO! Don't stop, it's the only way I can make new friends and keep them. LOL I guess I'll keep on sending him goodies.
So far so good as far as A-school for him. He seems to be keeping a good average and has a good attitude about it all. I love that he shares pics with me of his adventures in Charleston. That makes me feel like he is doing things he loves and that is important. As far as Thanksgiving, one of my Nuke Mom friends is heading down for the holiday and has invited my son along for Thanksgiving dinner. So...he is taken care of for that. It will be strange having Thanksgiving without him, but this whole year has been strange already so nothing new there. LOL I sure can't wait for him to come home for Christmas though. That will be the one I will cherish this year so very much. Who's to know how it will work out next year at Christmas. We'll make the best of what we can take.

If anyone is curious about what nukes do in their spare time, a few of the young men at NNPTC recently made this youtube video. It was apparently meant for the staff's children to watch during the NNPTC staff Halloween party. I believe the young man who put it together received 20 vol hours on his record for doing it, which is pretty cool. It is not long or scary. Think "GhostBusters." My youngest daughter's classmates seemed to enjoy watching it.
Hello everyone, been away for a few days, so a lot to catch up on!
SlezaksMom, congrats to you and your sailor! And your story made me tear up. Wow is all I can say!
Britefuture, what a lovely picture of sweet little Emersen. I hope his mama continues to feel better. I remember when our oldest son was born, my Dad said, "Your lives will never be the same." Yep, quite the understatement. ;-) It is also encouraging to know your sailor is handling the stress and doing well in proto. That will soon be the next leg of our journey with the MM, at least we hope.
Loved the Halloween photos. My Sailorette was astounded at the number of her fellow sailors who will be dressing up and looking for places to Trick or Treat. She says she is dressing up as a Navy Sailor for Halloween this year, lol.
Hi all--I feel a little sheepish because I'm not a Navy Mom at all--I'm the mom of a Navy girlfriend. But I have a lot of questions! My daughter probably could/should ask these questions herself but internet message boards aren't her thing, and they are mine. So...here goes:
1. My daughter would like to visit her sailor over Thanksgiving, at which time he will have been at Goose Creek for less than a week. I've read that recruits at Level 1 can ride in cars "with parents" but how about with someone else? A taxi? (Not sure she can even rent a car. She's 18.) If she were to stay at the Foster Creek villas (assuming her sailor can make a reservation for her on such short notice once he gets there), would that be considered "on base"? And is there any way to get from that location to the quarters he'd be staying in without a car? Can she even get ONTO the base to check in if she's alone in a taxi?
2. She's thinking of going to summer school at College of Charleston, but I was told there really isn't any practical way to get back and forth between Goose Creek and the campus. Is this the case? She knows he'll be super busy (I think by then he'd be in Power School) but being in Charleston means she could see him from time to time, and not being in Charleston means she couldn't.
For the great Thanksgiving debate of 2014, I just found this really nice 2010 post from Sassafras ProudMomofaSailor:
"...my best advice to any parent is like the quote (attributed to Hodding S. Carter, who was a prominent progressive journalist and author): "There are only two lasting bequests we can give our children - one is roots, and the other, wings.""
In response to PINK, yes, My Husband and I realized that WE miss our sailor more than HE misses us, He is in POWER school and we just came back from weekend to see him. More like 18 hours of drive time (we live in Maryland) to see him for 4 hours. On Nov 13 he will have one year in service--it seems to have gone quick (I am sure not for him). His best buddy, who is finishing school in Connecticut, just got his orders for submarine and will be stationed in Georgia so he is excited that they will be within driving range. And I think both will be home for holidays so that makes me smile. And since we won't be planning any more trips to see him before Christmas, husband and I going to New York next week and then Miami the first week in December to see Ravens play Dolphins. I did feel bad thinking he would miss us over Thanksgiving but not after this weekend.....He is FINE.
