Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Deborah> Sorry, I have to correct some of your info.
The SRs are not allowed to call parents again after that initial "I didn't pass my final PFA" phone call, unless they DO pass and will be at PIR. Once a SR calls to say they initially do not pass their PFA (fitness), families are not to come to PIR unless they receive another call from their SR saying they have now passed and will be at PIR. This creates many problems for families traveling to PIR, as you can imagine. If a SR passes the PFA on a Wed before PIR, they would call then. But what if that family is scheduled to fly up there early Wed morning? UGH! A few years back, they would allow families who traveled there hoping they had a sailor to see their still-SR for a couple of hours on PIR day. They no longer allow families to do that. So it may be a trip for nothing....
Deborah: I wish they did it as you said....would let the families know either way. Yes, during most of Bootcamp, it is true that if they will be delayed in graduating, they let you know. But NOT true once they fail the final PFA which is usually taken within a week or so before PIR (before their BattleStations). The rule is that if they have not passed their final PFA by their division's BattleStations date, they call you and tell you not to come unless they call you again and say they passed. It used to be that in that initial supervised call, they said: Didn't pass my PFA, won't graduate, don't come. That would make us SO MAD on here because we knew they still had chances to pass (some have 3 more chances; some only 1, depending on when their BattleStations is) and still be at their PIR. So we would try to get to those families BEFORE they cancelled travel plans---one lady insisted to me that she HAD to cancel by Wed or she would lose her money....so she did when he didn't call. Son called the next day, he was going to be graduating/he passed---too late, she had cancelled so she missed PIR....my heart ached for both her and her son. Most will pass before PIR, but some won't. Those who do can even do BattleStations the night before PIR....they would be at PIR then, but probably in the balcony sitting with the other "tired" sailors....although in the past, some still manage to march with their divisions!
If they do not pass before their PIR, they stay in the FIT division and get more chances, 3 a week. I believe they have about 12 more chances. Once they pass then, there is no PIR. Once they miss their own, they don't have one. They do BattleStations, and will most likely have a short Liberty time for family to visit them if close enough to drive there (no heads up for flights to get to them!). Then they fly directly to their A Schools.
Lets hope that all get calls from their SAILORS before their travel dates!

Trying to do this on my phone... 2ndTimeAround- last name of the recruit my son said was retaking (a friend of his) starts with a G. Friend me and send me a message if this is your son and I can tell you what I know.

2ndTime Around: Did you get the call from your SR right before BattleStations that he did not pass the final PFA or are you going only by what he put in the letter? If you DID NOT get a call from him that he didn't pass his final PFA by this past Thurs, assume that he did! They are supposed to call home if they do not (but they can't MAKE them call home if the don't want to). But normally, in that case, no news should be good news! He could have had "watch" and missed the calls....or....is the one making up BattleStations on Sunday. Just know that he will pass BattleStations when he goes through the 2nd time. SO keep your plans! :-)

diannep :) thank you! No phone call at all for about 3 weeks. The only indication about still needing to pass his run was in his letter he wrote last Sunday. In his letter he said that he would either call to say, "I'm a Sailor" or, "I did not pass". But, no word....I was expecting to hear from him yesterday after battlestations.

2ndTimeAround- can't find how to get back to messages now on my phone. I sent my son a fb message to ask him about your son... Hopefully he will get to check it today and get back to me. I know they are doing a competition today, so not sure if he can call.

My recruit just called. "...not so good mom; I didn't pass my PFA. I'm sorry mom". (deep breath) I told him he had nothing to be sorry for and that he would push through this. I said I knew he was disappointed but that he had done such a tremendous job and, we were all very proud of him. I told him we don't know the reasons for things like delays but, there is a reason. --that if I couldn't meet up with him in Great Lakes, I would be flying to Florida to spend some time with him.
He said his next run is Monday. I said ok; then maybe there is still time to graduate with his division. The RDC in the background said, no. Tell her there will not be enough time.

I thought I had already replied but I must have erased it. I just want to tell you how proud I am of you for being so strong for him. Its ok its just a change of where you will go to see him. I'm so glad you made his disappointment less bearable by telling him that. Words would have failed me. My son is also headed to Pensacola so hopefully at some point we will get to meet. So don't worry and chin up! They have done so much already to get to where they are. The day my son signed his Navy paperwork I told him that nothing else would bring me as much pride as that moment did. What comes after is extra. that moment when they decided to give their lives to our military cannot compare. Your son needs to remember that, he is already a champion!!
