Really missing my boy tonight.  A friend tried to tell me that she knows how I feel because she misses her daughter who is away at college.  She meant well, but it is just NOT the same.

Thank you very much for your help!

Lauren - Thanksgiving will be "iffy".

Phone time is scheduled by the RDC's. Only so many phones and with thousands of Recruits at BC at any given time there is just not enough time for them all to get in there.

Now Christmas I would hope for some kind of contact either phone or computer since this TG will be a part of Adopt-A-Sailor. All Recruits leave base for the day, adopted out by immediate Family or churches or Civic Organizations. So most will get access to some kind of communication.

Keep your phones by you all the time as was suggested. :-)

This works well....I need to get one of these!

Hello, my SR called me this morning, but does anyone know if Recruits will be allowed to also call on Thanksgiving and Christmas? Let me know please! Thanks!

CatMom509...thanks for the Heads Up about the potential phone call.  We are out of state at the moment for job interviews and would have missed our sons call about an hour after we read your message if we hadn't been on alert!  So glad we didn't miss that!  Our son sounds GREAT! And it was fun to talk to him.

Yes he stressed, DON'T Send anything, but greeting cards and letters and they do make the guys who get innappropriate letters from wives/girlfriends, they have to read aloud, apparently it has already happened. He said it's really bad and embarrassing!

Definitely NO boxes of goodies or gifts at all to the SRs during Boot Camp!  They will be taken away and Physical Training can be given to the SRs.  Please let all family members know not to send anything like that. ( They can receive goodie/care boxes during A school though...)

Cards should not be musical or glittery or have snow or anything that can get on their uniforms or in the barracks.  Avoid colored envelopes if possible, some RDCs don't care, but some will.  Just hard to tell.

Jenny,

Oh, sounds like that Ricky Crud is going around, which is normal because of all the people coming in from all over the world plus all the vaccinations given to them at once.  They are watched over by the Recruit Division Commanders (RDCs), so they are taken care of~

Also, at this early period of Boot Camp, each division is working on coming together as a team and have to find that balance.  Lots of personalities to deal with and they will get the hang of it by about midway through Boot Camp~~

Hello Friends!

My son, ship 14 Div 053 called this morning, he's coming down with a cold, scratchy voice but so far, so good. He only had three minutes and expects the next call on Thanksgiving, but no guarantees. He's making friends but focused on trying to work as a team. Sounded like that was his only concern. Food is good, sleep is little.
