Pennyrh,
Any chance of just staying in Great Lakes for that week, so you don't have to book airfare twice?? If you stay at the Navy Lodge, you could get a room with a kitchenette for about $71.00. Ask if they have stoves with ovens.
You would be flying in on December 30th for the Meet & Greet that evening. This is only 5 days after Christmas!
Is your SR going to A school in Great Lakes or will he be flying out? If he has A school at Great Lakes,you will get to see him all the way until Sunday evening (no overnights though). If he is flying out, he will be leaving sometime on Friday, January 2nd to travel to A school~~
Just a reminder that this PIR group is part of the Christmas Adopt a Sailor program. Hopefully for those close enough, your SRs will mail you the form to complete and fax back to RTC so that you can spend Christmas Day with your SR! Some may be going through BattleStations that night, but should still get time with family that day.
thanks so much for the heads up on the phone call. Received my today and what a thrill it was to hear our son and how he is doing. So glad that I knew to keep my phone handy because I sure didn't want to miss that call. He said may get to call again on Thanksgiving.
You're welcome, KC Mom~~
Hello Friends!
"The Lord has heard my supplication;
the Lord will receive my prayer."
Psalm 6:9
I would to thank everyone for all of the useful information.
You are very welcome, Jeannine!
Good Morning All!
To add to what CatMom said below, be sure to answer ALL CALLS when you have a SR at Bootcamp. You never know! Just get rid of the solicitors quickly so you don't miss a call from your SR!
Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend! The call will show up as "847", "Waukegan, IL", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar. If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you." Please also let your family members know about this too~~
During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands. If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it. They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (West Coast); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (East Coast).
