PtGloria, it's fairly common for sailors to go in the hole with their leave time in A school. Don't worry, she will have plenty of time to accumulate it back. She does have an option. I know that we all want to spend every minute available with our sailors, but she doesn't have to take leave for the entire holiday stand-down. For example, she can take 10 days or 12 days leave and stay on base for the rest. Last year our son took 10 days leave during the stand-down - he waited 2 days to save $400 on airfare, and wanted to be back 2 days early to study for class. Another option she can look into is volunteering to work at the local recruiter office while she is home. My son was told that NNPTC doesn't do that, but he later found out it's allowed, just frowned upon by his section leader.

Hello all!!

Ladyhowl--saying prayers for your son!  good luck to him.  enjoy your time with him!!

Ptgloria, yes it does put them in the hole for leave, but don't worry about it. That is just how it works. They catch up with it later.

So, we booked our flight and room in August for our Sailor's graduation from Power School only to find out two days before we were to leave that he didn't pass his Comps.  He was devastated.  I felt so bad for him.  We came to SC anyway because he needed some TLC and a boot in the fanny.  He retests on Wednesday, please pray for him to pass.  It's good just to see him and spend what little time is available with him.

I got a letter from my daughter at RTC a couple of days ago. PIR is 12/12, then she is headed to A school at Goose Creek. She said they will be in holiday shutdown and she should have leave from 12/19-01/04. Won't this put her in the hole for future leave? Do they have any options?

A's_momma_Erin, thanks for sharing your insights.  I am certainly better at worrying less, but that doesn't mean I don't worry at all!  Worry seems to just be a staple in all our lives these days!  Son did call last night and was incredibly talkative!  And turns out he is doing quite well.  He is also an EM.  It's certainly true that whatever doesn't kill us does make us stronger.

Mommamac, how absolutely wonderful!  Just relax and savor every moment of having your brood together and rack up some great memories.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Yesterday I received the best surprise a momma could ever receive. Our son flew home for the weekend surprising me at a local restaurant that we've been going to for over 28 years. I have not seen him since last Christmas so needless to say I've been a crying mess since. My husband and other son were in on this also, he came home from college also so it's been the best weekend ever. Not looking forward to Monday though.
