A little blue to know that I will not be seeing either of my boys this years holiday season. I am waiting to hear from a lady from my old church who had invited me to her daughters who lives here. In the mean time got an invite from the former owner of my home and my handyman's house.

Today at school, were put in groups and we had to make:

banana bread, coffee cake, blueberry muffins, biskets and scones.

We had mostly success, forgot to adjust for altitude on the banana bread, it was tasty but fell and was gooey as one gal in out group paniced when it fell and took it out too soon, it was a fun day.

Had student conference with teacher. I thought she was going to not be nice as sometimes I think she not only plays favorites but that she did not like me.  WELL got a glowing report!! She said that she is always alittle leary when someone has had professional kitchen experience already as they are reluctant to learn new concepts or methods. She said she has not seen that with me and I am enthusiastic, participate well, communicate well, practice great hygiene, get along well with all the other students without acting like the Mom,  try hard. get my homework done and am understanding and learning the material. She said how I seem to be a verbal learner and a visual learner, She watches me talk myself through the practice problems then sees a light go on and I will say, Oh OK. She said go ahead and talk your self through what ever you need to, it works for you. I did mention that I thought she did not like me so I was surprised, She shared that no she just is in pain all the time. Now I feel bad. She was in the army 8 years and got run over by a hummer. She has lost some internal organs, has a hip, femer and knee replacement.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving.  If you are fortunate enough to spend it with your sailor give them extra hugs and remember those that are away from their families!

Good Morning All - Happy Wednesday!

Along for the Ride - yes, once he starts A school he will have a set graduation date.  Same with Power School.  The only reason that would change is if by chance something happened to him and he got set back (illness maybe?).  Because that is "classroom" study it's pretty straight forward on the grad dates.  They often get time off between schools as they wait for the next school to start but that just depends on what is going on at the time.  When my son finished A school in April '13 he had some time off - started Power School in July '13.  He finished Power School in December '13 & had time off after - started Proto in April '14. He did still have to show up at the plant though before actual classes started.  Not sure what they had them doing.   Sometimes they are given jobs on base or they can take college classes (depending on how long their hold is). There is no guaranteed amount of leave time between classes though.....flexibility is the key here!

(To clarify: She plans to go to summer school at College of Charleston, and possibly to enroll there in the fall.)

Good morning all! I've read through the information about the training schedule, but I see that some parts are more predictable than others, and I completely understand that "predictable" and "Navy" do not belong in the same sentence...BUT...

My daughter's sailor arrived at Goose Creek on Saturday and is in Indoc. She is looking at the school calendar for the summer, and needs to have some notion of when he will finish A-school and whether he is likely to have leave between A-school and Power School. If he finishes at the end of May/early June (he's an ET), and gets a couple weeks to go home, then that would NOT be a good time for her to be in Charleston. (Home is where she is, too, so it's not either/or for him--he can see his family AND his girl if he comes home.) The summer session is split up into small chunks (Maymester, Summer I, and Summer II, basically 4-5 weeks each) so she has some options as to when to go. Is A-School a fairly predictable calendar with a pre-set graduation day and a known amount of leave before Power School? Or is it all just up in the air like everything else in the Navy?

(She DOES know he'll be very busy in Power School, and even busier in prototype.)

I had a great time at power school graduation! I'm very proud of my son! He won the hard charger award! During our weekend together, he bought a new car and got settled into his apartment! He starts prototype in SC next week! Love that boy!
